NEW DELHI: In a big setback for the BJP ahead of Punjab elections, senior party leader and nominated Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu has put in his papers.
The former India cricketer and BJP's Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar may join the Aam Aadmi Party, according to reports.
He was recently appointed as Rajya Sabha MP.
Arvind Kejriwal had last year said he will welcome the cricketer-turned politician if he wanted to join AAP.
"We will welcome Navjot Singh Sidhu if he wants to join AAP," Kejriwal said while replying to a question that there was talk in the political circles that Sidhu would be projected as an AAP candidate in the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.
Kejriwal also said that he was confident of sweeping the Punjab elections.
"First of all, I am confident that we'll sweep Punjab elections looking the current surveys that were conducted. I won't be surprised if the Delhi assembly results are repeated in Punjab. As far as face of the party is concerned, it will emerge at the right time," Kejriwal said.
