NATO Kills 3 children in an air strike.

KANDAHAR: Afghan officials said Monday that a Nato air strike killed three children while it was targeting Taliban insurgents planting mines on a road in southern Afghanistan.

Nato’s International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) confirmed an air strike in Helmand province’s Nawa district on Sunday, saying that three insurgents died and it was investigating reports that children were also killed.

“Two Taliban mine-planters were identified and targeted by Isaf from the air and killed,” district police chief Ahmad Shah Khan told AFP.

“Three children, two boys and a girl, who were nearby collecting firewood were also killed,” Khan added.

Farid Ahmad Farhang, a spokesman for Helmand police, confirmed the incident and said the raid killed two insurgents and three children.

Civilian casualties caused in Nato operations against insurgents are a sensitive issue in relations between the US-led force and the government of President Hamid Karzai.

Karzai often reacts angrily, arguing that such incidents turn people against his administration amid an ongoing insurgency by Taliban trying to bring him down.

Thousands of civilians are killed in the war each year, with the United Nations saying the vast majority of such deaths are caused by insurgents.

Look sir there are many ways to take out the actions, area must be cleared from any idle non targeted people and made assured that area is clear to take action out, it could be done it's not out of the space thing, I would like to know your feelings if God forbid it was your children victims of this cross fire. It's poor strategy by nato/isaf, death of children will turn whole village against america more, I know people mentality there very closely ,

Civilian death: bad thing, must not happen, but when u enter in urban warfare, its very difficult to identify the target. No army is satan and none of them are saint. Be it USA, India or even pakistan army, there hands are soaked with blood. Some time intentionally some time accidently.

The above case it seems that kids died accidently. I am not saying that NATO forces are saint , but for this incident it seems that NATO forces are not guilty.

The US has many advanced precision bombs that are made to avoid collateral damage. In fact the process to obtain a " fire" order is belabored under the rules of engagement ( 100's of videos from Iraq show how careful they are, how many levels of permission they seek before firing"...)

could you tell us the rules of engagement of the Pakistan military artillery bombings or air-force here please? I'd like to see if NATO/ US are substandard or are being held to a completely different level than others. Also could you give us links to any civilian deaths in your NWP areas through your military's arti shells fired from miles away. Any subsequent hue and cry by you or members of equal mind would be greatly appreciated too, to show balance..

Firstly its a faked drama created by US and Pak Gov..Pak army is just going with the wind..

Secondly if its not faked drama then we accept the fact that KPK is in state of war or maybe whole Pakistan as accepted by Pak Army and Gov of Pakistan,than if she's shot at than its fair as we are in war (According to your facts of collateral damage in war).
