Ukraine establishing foreign legion for volunteers from abroad - President

Listen to Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba speak about it at 22mins in the below video.

All Russia wants is to secure its black sea route, and that's it. So I don't think Russia will advance anymore beyond that point. The target at the moment seems to be only East Ukraine.

It’s about having a NATO member country on its border and its strategic and economic implications, which could bankrupt Russia. There is more but this is the most important. Also Google James Baker’s commitment to Gorbachev over expansion of NATO and what has actually happened. Ukraine is the red line for Russia. Similar to Soviet Missiles in Cuba.

Russia already shares border with 3 NATO member states in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia respectively.

I respect your opinion. But seems like it's not the real reason. Also, see the @LeGenD reply.
The area under black lines will be in Russia soon. And war can stop here, if Turkey behaves itself after 2022.

Lithuania doesn’t border Russia. They are part of the problem but not as big as Ukraine and Belarus, hence not worth going to war.

Lithuania shares border with Belarus but it is a Russian client state. Russian military is stationed in Belarus in fact and Russian forces invaded Ukraine from Belarus as well.

There will be a regime change or the existing regime will become more compliant and a new treaty. Most Russian troops will leave all of Ukraine after that.

Belarus is a buffer the same way, same way Russia wants Ukraine to be one. Belarusian already tried what Ukrainian tried and failed.

This will be a tough task to achieve with NATO troops joining the war covertly as Ukraine's foreign legion forces.
