LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Friday expressed deep concern over the abduction of Shahbaz Taseer, son of former governor Salmaan Taseer, and observed that the federal and provincial governments had completely failed to provide security to the people and left them at the mercy of criminals.

Speaking to the media after expressing sympathies with the Taseer family at their residence, Khan said that the “NRO-beneficiary government and its supporters” could not protect the life and property of the masses as they were busy “in their loot and plunder” and had no concern with the agonies of the common man.

He said that a government which had no faith in the Supreme Court could not maintain law and order. He said that kidnapping of Shahbaz Taseer after the assassination of his father was a matter of serious concern.

Consoling the Taseer family, Imran assured them of his complete support for taking up the issue at every forum available to him. The PTI chief also appealed to the captors of Shahbaz Taseer to free him as his family members were already bearing the sorrow of Salmaan Taseer’s death.

Imran Khan asks for investigation of serious allegations against MQM by Zulfiqar Mirza

Press Release

Islambad (Aug, 28, 2011)

Imran Khan, Chairman PTI, has expressed shock at the revelations and accusations made by PPP leader Zulfiqar Mirza who is a close confidant of President Asif Zardari. The most serious allegations are those made against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain which, if correct, amount to treason against the state of Pakistan. Mirza has accused the MQM Chief of allying his party with the US in the latter’s alleged agenda of breaking up Pakistan. He has also accused the MQM Chief of lobbying with the UK leadership to finish off the ISI – again a treasonable act if proven to be correct.

In view of these very serious allegations, Imran Khan has demanded:

- One, an immediate inquiry be set up to ascertain their veracity through a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.

- Two, the government must respond to each and every accusation.

- Three, a thorough investigation has to be made into the allegations regarding the alleged plan by the US to break up Pakistan. Here is an ally for whom Pakistan has sacrificed 35,000 lives, destroyed its economy and seen its social fabric rent by extremism and militancy. And now is the ally planning to break up Pakistan?

- Four, Rehman Malik should resign and his membership of the Senate be suspended till he is cleared of the charges leveled against him.

Imran Khan has also demanded that the President of Pakistan clear his position in terms of his relationship with Mr Mirza and the degree to which he is complicit in this latest action of Mirza’s. Imran also expressed the fear that this latest salvo fired by Mirza will add fuel to the already highly combustible situation in Karachi.

Imran felt saddened to see the degeneration of politics being reduced to name calling, accusations and allegations with no holds barred – especially on the part of those close to the highest office of the state.
