Nasir Khan Durrani relinquishes charge as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG


Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's police chief Nasir Khan Durrani on Thursday relinquished charge as the inspector general of police after serving at the post for more than three years.

Durrani assumed the office of inspector general in 2013. His appointment came a day after twin blasts at a church in Peshawar which killed left 81 people and injured more than 100.

The former police chief is most noted for taking strict action against officers accused of negligence in their duties, including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and acting Superintendents of Police (SPs), who were removed from service on account of misconduct.

According to a document DawnNews had obtained in September 2015, some 4,934 police officials were either removed from service or awarded other punishments on disciplinary grounds.


Durrani also introduced a Police Access System to address public complaints within the shortest possible time. He also introduced the I-Call system, establishing a round-the-clock direct link between himself and the public.

Additional Inspector General Syed Akhtar Ali Shah is the acting IGP until an official announcement is made.

Mr. Durrani served the purpose he was posted for, i hope his successors are equally good if not better officers as he was and follow his footsteps.

He was simply amazing and massive credit in modernizing and elevating the KPK police goes to him however great men come and go but the continuity of an organizations ability to sustain the same high level of performance and to improve that performance even more h
Showcases the true development and progress of the said departments. If by his leaving, things go south then that means the change was simply temporary however if the level is sustained then its true change.

Salute to him for his excellent job in saving 100s and 1000s of lives in KPK and making the institution stronger, friendlier and accessible for the people. I wish him best of luck but I think instead of relinquishing the charge Nasir Khan Durrani should have continued until new IGP was announced.
