Nantong: a severely underrated Chinese city shadowed by her neighbours

@AndrewJin, This looks like my hometown Meizhou.

Nah, river+lake+park is a very standard component of Chinese cities....
You will feel "this looks like my hometown" everywhere.
You must just miss your hometown....

Nantong is tier-3 city, and can be a future tier-2; Meizhou is just tier4/5.

Well yes.
Chandigarh as a city was designed by Swiss-French Architect/ Town planner Le Corbusier.

The city is a joint capital of Indian states of Punjab and Haryana and one of the most beautiful cities in India.
Among many other things, it is home to Famous Rock Garden.

Joint capital?
wow, new to me.
Plus the government of its own municipality, so it is the capital of 3?

Looking wide open and neat :enjoy:
Very forward-thinking when it was planned decades ago

@Realtalk108 @anant_s where is your hometown?
I talk about mine too much.....

Looks more modern and way cleaner compared to major western cities like new york. :smitten:
Down town Nantong is actually about classical beauty....
Lots of ancient canals and gardens....
Chinese like to go out for a walk as family after dinner.

Agra (the home of Taj Mahal) :smitten:

Well just after Independence in 1947, the 3 states of himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab were one state and Chandigarh was capital to all 3. Now that there are 3 states, Chandigarh is joint administrative capital of Punjab and Haryana.
Municipality in India is not equivalent to independent government unlike in several other countries, it is only an administrative body with little financial and legislative powers although it is elected democratically through elections.

Neighbouring Yangzhou is my kind of city. :enjoy::D
Yangzhou is more like Taizhou/Nantong without a new CBD.

Yangzhou is indeed very habitable, but considering its historic status with 2500-year as a proper city,
today's Yangzhou has a pathetically awkward position.

Of course, all Chinese can recite those ancient poems that mention the name of Yangzhou....
Yangzhou is attractive to all Chinese tourists.

Chandigarh the planned city?

Yes. Although in recent years rapid population growth in the outskirts have been very haphazard. The city core is nice. But not the commuter belt is now a sprawl.

This is a problem in many planned Indian cities/city sectors. Once a planned section is built, it rapidly gets surrounded by unplanned urban sprawl, thereby precluding any chance of future expansion.

Chandigarh is the simultaneous capital of two Indian provinces - Punjab and Haryana.
