ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (APP): The first unit of 425-525 MW Nandipur Power Project would start generation in May 2014. According to Managing Director Nandipur Power Project Muhammad Mehmood the project would take 16 months for completion and it would fully be operational by December next year. The project is being set up at the left bank of Upper Chenab Canal (within the premises of the existing small Hydel Power Station, Nandipur, Gujranwala). Muhammad Mehmood told APP that the physical work on the project site at a cost of Rs 56 billion had already started. The plant would generate 425 MW if run on furnace oil and 525 MW power if run on gas, he added.
He said the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had approved the project in December 2007 and its was scheduled to be completed in 2011. However, it was delayed and now would be completed in December 2014.
The MD said that machinery had also transported to the project site.
He said Rs 1 billion had been paid under demurrage charges for not lifting imported equipment from the port in time.
