What's new

Nadeem Arshad gets Pakistan's third bronze in mens javelin throw

Great and congratulations to him for reaching the victory stand
..but we need a few golds...where can it come from?

Well, we need to invest in athletics more....
That is the hardest to achieve result in.. Personally I think you guys should first invest in community sports like wrestling and Kabaddi which are traditionally played in Pakistan so there is a certain base population to select gifted players from.. Then target sports like hockey and squash as they already have enough infrastructure to atleast start some ground level training from under 10 level age groups.. I personally want india to invest more in water sports and gymnastics and they have many medals and a certain gifted individual can get most of them.. That's the reason why phelps has most medals as he can compete in butterfly, freestly and other styles individual as well as in team events like relays. Gymnastics has many medals too.

well we need to start in parallel..Country already has some facilities and infrastructure which are totally under utilised so this is wrong to conclude we don't have infrastructure. We just need to make proper organisational reforms and create awareness among the people. My parental home is in a village in not-so-developed area of Punjab and still there are good sporting facilities and stadiums but no one takes care of them..People don't even know who is responsible for those facilities and how can they use it.

In many areas, the ch. or sardar use such stadiums as stables for their horses and cattle. But now the new govt has promised so I'm sure it will do something about it.

Hockey is our only chance..
Can tell India vs Pakistan is on cards and its going to be a tough game for us probably. We can improve so much with India Pakistan rivalry like Chinese and Japanese have but when Pakistan wins it becomes an issue of race, ethnicity, blabla since you have to prove you are Not-Indian and when Pakistan loses its obviously because of less population. The reason we can't have a healthy rivalry.

Yes, Makrani people look like Africans and we also have Sheedi people who came from Africa and settled in Sindh and now they have a member in provincial assembly

Yeah, quite a few. Actually most of the African men and women who were brought in by the European traders as slaves to the subcontinent fled to the coastal regions of Balochistan and the city of Karachi (the well known Lyari township is their traditional neighbourhood). There they converted to Islam and became fishermen and labourers. There are approximately 250,000 of them in Pakistan and about 25,000 to 50,000 in the rest of the subcontinent.

Then there are more recent African immigrants in Pakistan as well, refugees, students, etc. However, their numbers aren't as significant.

When Pakistan can produce world's fastest bowlers why not athletes?
Simply lack of mechanisms and infrastructures.
