LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team has returned after conducting a raid at the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, ARY News reported on Friday.

The bureau’s team comprising seven to eight members raided at 96 H residence of Hamza Shehbaz along with his arrest warrants issued by the Chairman NAB Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal, in assets beyond known sources of income.

However, the team was denied and resisted from arresting Hamza Shehbaz despite showing arrest warrants to Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz, who were present at the 96 H residence in model town.


A large number of PML-N workers reached the residence of Hamza Shehbaz and observed sit-in at the main gate of the residence. The agitated PML-N workers also tortured NAB team and torn clothes of an official.

Sensing the importance of the matter, DG NAB Punjab had informed chairman accountability bureau and other concerned authorities about the prevailing situation.

Later, the chairman NAB had asked the team to return back amid resistance and severe consequences threats to them.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb speaking to ARY News said a 7 to 8 member team conducted the raid without any warning at the residence.

“Under which law was this raid conducted without any prior notice.”

The PML-N spokesperson stressed that NAB was unable to prove any sort of corruption.





PML-N Punjab Spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmed expressing his views with ARY News said, “NAB personnel came to search the house without any warrant.”

‘NAB team went to arrest Hamza on basis of evidence’
The NAB spokesperson said a team had gone to the residence to arrest Hamza Shehbaz on the basis of evidence against him in the assents beyond means and alleged money laundering case.

“NAB officials were treated aggressively by Hamza Shehbaz’s guards, their clothes were torn and death threats were given”, the spokesperson said.

NAB officials had gone to the residence with an arrest warrant and the Supreme Court had stated that the accountability bureau did not require to inform any accused prior to arresting them.

The press release added that Hamza Shehbaz had violated the law and the bureau on the basis of evidence against and in light of Supreme Court directives would arrest him.

I think the facts in this story are being misconstrued. NAB did not have any irrefutable proof...which is the only pretext under which they could go without first notifying the suspect as per LHC decision from last November. That is why they had to leave tail between their legs.

Furthermore, when will NAB be raiding Pervez Khattak's house? Or Wajid Bukharis? Or SMQ? Or JKT? Or any number of other PTI affiliated thieves? We all have read the NAB KPK report about what is happening with BRT in Peshawar.

Pakistan has severe economic, security and social issues. The last 19 years of NAB have resulted in not one penny being returned to the state. Time to stop fighting yesterday's fights and focus on tomorrow. If MNS returned even 1 billion dollars it would make no difference in the big scheme of thing for Pakistan.

What this government should focus on is getting out of PIA/PSM and probably even public schooling (give it to reputable NGOs who are already doing such great work in public sector education)....focus on providing basic services and developing economic opportunity for local and foreign businesses and deal with our security issues.

One would expect that once any State agency; NAB is an organ of the State; goes out to arrest any citizen; it should go ahead and complete the task. Returning empty-handed indicates incompetency and /or weakness of the State.

I would like to put another question to the NAB Chairman. Hamza Sharif never declined to go to the NAB office for questioning. Why not simply invite him for questioning and arrest him or arrest him as he comes out from Punjab Assembly building?

NAB isn't an independent organ of the state. It is controlled by establishment and ruling govt. They didn't dare raid Hamza's house when PMLN was in power. But now that IK is in power it has a different mandate.

Bottom line is we have a dysfunctional state. IK has not lived up to expectations. His team is not competent. And while they bumble like fools with the most pressing issues at hand, he's running his own drama against the Bhuttos and Sharifs. Its all really sad. Our country was made on the bodies of our grandparents. Iqbal spent nights writing about his vision. He convinced Jinnah to lead. Jinnah died trying to make this state. Please do your howework before commenting. Decision of Azmat Sheikh said IF NAB HAS IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE. They dont. That is why they left without taking Hamza.

And as to your question of why do some have more rights than others...thats a great question. Please tell me why Musharaf hasn't been arrested by Interpol and sent back to Pakistan. Please enlighten me as to how Musharraf was able to bypass his court appearance at IHC and go straight to CMH and from their run to Dubai? Why wasnt he on ECL? Furthermore why has Kiyani's brother escaped arrest or even NAB raid despite being a known land chor? And lets not even start with Aleema Tailor or Khattak.

Why this happens...idk...probably bc we have a dysfunctional state. Where rule of law is only applied to people driving on highway in Sahiwal. But then again I thought Imran was gonna fix that.
