ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – While hearing of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against Sharif family in the accountability court on Friday, Robert Radley expressed his wish to change statement and told that he is neither IT or computer expert, but a forensic analyst.

Speaking to Sharif family’s counsel Khawaja Harris as witness in cross-examination, Radley said Calibri font was used in 2005.

He further pointed out that there were 360 fonts in Microsoft Office now while the number was only 6 back in 2005, including Calibri font. The man who invested Calibri font was awarded too during the same year, he added.

Talking about his report, Radley said he didn’t mention in his report that there are several types of Calibri font. “I received documents on July 6 and couldn’t compile a detailed report due to shortage of time,” he stated.

Harris asked him whether he is pointing out at the possibility of the report not being true due to short time, at which the witness answered that it is wrong. He said he stands by his report and did not prepare it under the supervision of NAB officials.

Sharif family’s lawyer said Radley’s statement had been recorded and cannot be changed during cross-examination.

In yesterday’s hearing, the prosecution witness had corroborated that the facility of Calibri font was available in the Windows Vista Beta.

ISLAMABAD: Reported differently by media houses that the prime UK based witness forensic expert Robert Radley on Thursday while appearing before Accountability Court via video link from London, admitted that ‘calibri’ font was available in 2005, hence the perception was given that the main accused in Avefield reference Maryam Nawaz, Captain(R) Safdar who presented their trust deed before ‘Joint Investigation Team’ probing off shore companies of Sharif family did not allegedly forge their documents as the aforementioned font was available for use then in 2005.

But the second and most important testimony which the UK based witness gave to accountability court was ignored or not given that much of importance that the font came to market for commercial purposes, post January, 2007.

More Robert Radley just admitted that the use of ‘calibri’ font was available in window Beta version, albeit in limited scale.

The font’s beta version came out for testing purposes for selected software houses in 2005, the complete version of the font was released in 2007, added Robert Radley.

ISLAMABAD: A key witness in the supplementary reference case filed against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that the Calibri font was in existence in 2005 but was available in limited quantity.

This was revealed by UK forensic expert Robert Radley who told the court during a hearing of the supplementary reference in the Avenfield case against Nawaz Sharif.

The proceedings were carried out at the Pakistan High Commission in London from where it was live streamed to the court.

Investigation Director Amjad Majeed and representatives of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif were present at the high commission.

Radley observed in his findings, which were included in the JIT report, that he “identified the type font used to produce both certified declarations as ‘Calibri’. However, [the font] was not commercially available before Jan 31, 2007 and as such, neither of the [documents] is correctly dated and [appear] to have been created at some later point in time.”

During the hearing, Radley claimed that the dates on pages two and three of the declaration of offshore companies Nelson and Nescol were changed.

Robert Radley, who is head of his firm Radley Forensic Document Laboratory, told the court that he had examined the possible change in dates on both documents.

He said that the font used in both trust deeds of the two companies was the Calibri font. He however, stated that it was not available for commercial use before January 31, 2007.

Radley further informed the court that four stapler holes were found in the documents which implied that the corner piece had been opened.

He said that 2004 had been changed into 2006 and that a ‘6’ had been replaced with a ‘4’. Further in his testimony, Radley claimed that the document could not be prepared commercially before January 31, 2007.

The defence counsel then questioned Radley over the availability of the font in Windows Vista and if Vista was released in three different versions. Radley obliged.

When asked, Radley confirmed that the first proper edition of the operating system was released on January 31, 2007. He said that the pre-launch beta version of Vista was also released for IT experts in April 2005.

He was then asked by the defence counsel as to whether the font was present in the pre-launch version of 2005 to which he replied in the affirmative but said that it was limited to only developers and IT experts.

He further added that testing was being conducted on a very limited level hence it was not possible that thousands of people could have access to it.

The court also recorded the statement of another witness, solicitor Akhtar Raja, through the video link.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 2, 2018.

Yes absolutely, plus anothet valid point is that the witness, he wants to change his statement... why??? But having said that the confrontation mode which NS has adopted, its very unlikely that he and maryam would be spared by the court, it seems he himself wants to go to jail...

Exactly, even Justice Saqib Nisar offer Nawaz sharif to plead guilty and in return get some relief but NS simply refused and walk away from the offer.

But politically speaking, look its obvious that in senate elections it would be difficult to get majority by pmln now, and with that if NS goes to jail, then it can cause cracks within pmln ranks, so this confrontationist approach whether right or wrong is not the debate, but this approach, dont u think it will harm pmln as a party big way, I mean all of us know what happened to bhutto and other mainstream populer political leaders in the past when they resorted to confrontation.
