NA passes resolution condemning US interference in internal affairs of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, FEB 13 (APP): The National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution strongly condemning US congressional committee hearing on Balochistan issue.The resolution calls upon the government to convey to US authorities that such hearing on internal situation of Pakistan was totally unacceptable.PPP Chief Whip Khurshid Shah supporting the resolution said Balochistan is our internal issue and the parliament should convy unanimous meesage in this connection.The resolution moved by Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nasir Ali Khan strongly condemned interference into internal affairs of Pakistan by congressional sub-committee by holding a discussion on Balochistan situation.

Nisar said that Congressional committee hearing on Pakistan’s internal issue is a very sensitive issue and no sovereign country allows such interference.

He said all resolution of the parliament should be implemented in its true spirit and drone attacks be stopped immediately. Leader of the Opposition questioned US congressional committee did not take up violations on human rights issue during nine years rule of General Musharraf.

He suggested that Congressional committee should hold hearing on human rights violations in Afghanistan and occupied Kashmir. He said the government should immediately start dialogue with disgruntle Baloch people and resolve their problems on priority basis. Bushra Gohar of Awami National Party said adoption of this important resolution unanimously would send a strong message that we all are united on national issue.

She said Pakistan strongly oppose any interference in its internal affairs.Bushara Gohar said they should take up Balochistan issue and FATA issue seriously to avoid any foreign interference. Raiz Fatya , Nasir Ali Shah, Changez Jamali, Dost Mohammad Mazari also condemned foreign interference and called for solving problems of Balochistan.

Pakistan accuses US of meddling in Baluchistan

ISLAMABAD — Islamabad on Monday accused Washington of meddling over the restive southwestern province of Baluchistan, threatening to worsen relations still struggling to recover from a series of crises.

The foreign ministry said the US Charge d'Affairs, Richard Hoagland, was officially conveyed the government's serious concern over a US Congressional hearing last week that reportedly discussed human rights abuses in Baluchistan.

Parliament then unanimously passed a resolution condemning a sub-committee hearing in the US Congress, convened by a Republican lawmaker, saying the United States has no jurisdiction to discuss any issue happening in Pakistan.

"The Charge d'Affairs was informed that this was unacceptable as it amounted to interference in the internal affairs of the country," a foreign ministry statement said.

Pakistan's Baluchistan province has been suffering from a separatist insurgency at the hands of Baluch rebels since 2004, demanding political autonomy and a greater share of the region's oil, gas and mineral deposits.

Government security officials are often accused of human rights violations and hundreds of people have gone missing, believed detained or killed at the hands of Pakistan's military and intelligence services.

It was unclear whether the anger over the Baluchistan hearing would have any lasting repercussions, or whether it was intended more for an anti-American domestic audience at a time of political uncertainty at home.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was on Monday charged with contempt of court for refusing to re-open corruption cases against the government, paving the way for a trial that could ultimately help force early elections.

Victoria Nuland, spokesperson for the State Department, underlined last week that this hearing was a private initiative. "The State Department is not participating or involved in this hearing", she said.

"We emphasise that the United States engages with Pakistan on a whole range of issues, including ways to foster economic development and expand opportunity in Baluchistan", she emphasised.

The resolution in Pakistan's parliament was tabled by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan from the main opposition Pakistan Muslim League party in the lower house and was unanimously passed, state television said.

"American interference in Pakistan's internal affairs is unacceptable," the resolution said.

Relations between Pakistan and the United States, allies in the war in Afghanistan, drastically deteriorated last year over the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden and air strikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

The alliance is deeply scarred by mistrust on both sides, with the populations in both countries deeply suspicious of each other's government.

Pakistan has kept its Afghan border closed to NATO supply trucks since late November, but there had been hopes that the blockade could end soon after the parliament adopts a formal review of the alliance, expected this month.

Pakistan passes resolution against US congress debate on Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution presented by Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday against US congress committee's discussion on Balochistan, Geo News reported.

Presenting the resolution in the National Assembly, Nisar said Americans could not be allowed to interfere in Pakistan's internal matters.

"Why was the US congress silent when Akbar Bugti was assassinated (in Balochistan) and bombs were hurled on young female students in Lal Masjid," Chaudhry Nisar lamented.

He continued as to why the US congress was keeping mum on whatever was happening in Kashmir or the drone strikes in Pakistan killing innocent people.

The Opposition Leader in NA asserted that government would have to address the issue of Balochistan and resolve the complaints of Baloch people.

With regard to the missing persons, he said it should be the parliament rather than the Supreme Court playing its role on the issue.

For last 4 years this parliament and foreign office were sitting tight lipped, taking all the blames left & right and now what is forcing them for this U turn!!!!

This is not enough, they need to go international with all the evidence of foreign involvement in TTP & BLA.

I would look forward to the comments of those, who always criticized military for not taking retaliatory action.

Is it really morally and ethically wrong to "interfere" in Pakistan's internal affairs when the U.S. holds an informational hearing about human rights violations yet not morally and ethically wrong for Pakistan to support an insurgency in neighboring Afghanistan for its own selfish purposes, rather than noble ones?

Last I checked, Afghanistan is not a state of the United States of America, and you have no proof that Pakistan supports insurgency in Afghanistan. While the U.S. made its interference in Pakistan's internal affairs blatantly clear.
