Myanmar warship in Naaf - bdnews24.com
The Myanmar navy has deployed a warship on the Naaf river near Teknaf on the countrys borders with Bangladesh.
Officials of Border Guard Bangladesh however denied any tension on the border leading to the deployment of the Myanmar navy warship 554.
They said Myanmar has disbanded its border guard force Nasaka and is trying to put in place a new force to replace it.
BGB-42 Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Jahid Hasan told bdnews24.com there was no border tension between Bangladesh and Myanmar over the deployment of the warship.
Myanmar abolished Nasaka on Jul 16 under pressure by the United States which pulled it up for 'brutal torture' on the Rohingyas and Muslims.
Soon after, the Nasaka personnel were called back from the border at Teknaf.
The BGB official said the warship was sent for border protection duties for an interim period before a new force is deployed on the border.
He said the ship was now at Mongdu Khal on the Naaf river.
Residents in and around Teknaf were however flustered by the deployment of the Myanmarese warship.
The warship has been deployed in the interim period to guard the border and we have been duly informed about it, a senior BGB official had said earlier, but was not willing to be named.
