Myanmar leader Suu Kyi arrives in India, to meet Prime Minister INDIA, Updated Nov 13, 2012 at 01:27pm IST

New Delhi: Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi arrived here on Tuesday on her first visit to India in four decades.
Suu Kyi flashed a traditional "namaste" as she stepped out of the aircraft that brought her from Yangon. Officials here said she would meet Indian leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Nobel Laureate will be meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, tour Parliament and deliver a public lecture. She will also be visiting her alma mater - Lady Sri Ram College in Delhi. Her week-long visit to India comes two years after elections in Myanmar that formally ended military rule.

Excellent! We must welcome her and the Myanma delegation with a grande opening. It is very important that we forge solid relations with the Myanma government now that they have indeed moved into a direction welcomed by the global community at large.

Let's hope that the India-Myanmar expressway planned to connect with Vietnam is on the discussion cards.

If the Burmese can devote dedicated troops and security at all entry and toll points of the expressway, we can expect trade with southeast Asia to boom in coming 5-7 years.
