Myanmar border guard firing injures a BGB soldier, another abducted

A soldier of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Cox’s Bazar was injured by shots fired by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) while another soldier was abducted, officials of the force confirmed

The exchange of fire between the two countries’ border patrols occurred on the Naf River in Teknaf Upazila.
Teknaf BGB 42 Battalion chief Lt Col Abu Zar Al Zahid said the shootout took place around 4am on Wednesday at the river’s Jamudira Point.
The wounded BGB soldier ‘Bilpob’, 21, has been admitted to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
The abducted soldier has been identified as Nayek ‘Razzak’.
The exchange of firing had been caused by a ‘misunderstanding’, according to the BGB.
“The shooting broke out due to a misunderstanding with the BGP when the BGB patrol was searching a trawler following a tip-off regarding Yaba smuggling,” the force’s Chittagong South-East Region Director Lt Col Ekram told bdnews24.com.
The abducted soldier was said to be all right and the BGB were in contact with the BGP to bring him back, added the BGB official.

our media reported these BGB come our side with patrol boat.. BGP tried to stop them and asked the matter why they come to Myanmar side.. they didn't say anything and open fired first.. when we shot back , one injuried and one jumped into water..

I don't know what trousers are like in Bangladesh but in the rest of the world trousers can be taken off. He was pulled in put the water.

1.Those clothes he is wearing are not his. He is a Corporal, not a Lieut. BGB does not use this camo. His clothes obviously got drenched.
2. He is bleeding from the nose. Obviously was beaten up. The Burmese will have to pay for this.

As far as I read, he was a non commissioned officer (subedar major??), his badge suppose to be of Lieut.

No, he is a Naik/Corporal. These are not his clothes or badges of rank.

I seriously think our approach towards Myanmar has been far from being correct. It's quite clear that the Burmese military junta has been using these 'little adventures' to score cheap political points in their domestic circuit and strengthen their grip on the parliament. While the dilemma of Bangladesh government is also understandable, we are striving for better regional connectivity and cannot afford hostile relations. There's no harm in avoiding hostile attitude but the current approach is surely not effective. The fact is that, the Military Junta is able to score such political points is because of the severe anti-Muslim sentiments in Myanmar. The only solution would be to have better people-to-people contact. There has been plethora of cultural and youth exchange programs with several countries but how many have been there with Myanmar? BRAC has its presence in several countries but no activities in this immediate neighbor. We can also extend the SAARC education quota to Myanmar and invite the Burmese students and scholars through scholarship programs.

yes, people to people contact is a very good approach. I doubt general burmese hate bangladeshis as such, so you need good relation at political level too.
