TheBurmese army, Tatmadaw, has taken more than a dozen leaders of the NSCN-K faction into custody after the operation against their base at Taga inSagaing Divisionof Myanmar last month.

Top Burmese army officials told Northeast Now that these leaders have been told to dismantle their bases in Sagaing and continue their negotiations with Burmese authorities under the framework of the Nationwide Ceasefire arrangement.

The NSCN-K has maintained the ceasefire arrangement with Myanmar government since 2012, despite reneging on their ceasefire with India.

“We will not allow any hostile activity against India from our soil,” said a top Burmese army official but he requested anonymity because he was not officially authorized to speak to the media.

TheTatmadawraided the NSCN-K bases at Taga in early February and dismantled them. The NSCN-K leaders did not resist because they wanted to maintain the ceasefire.

The Burmese army official said that the NSCN-K leaders will have to remain in designated camps and not carry out any hostile activity against India from Burmese soil.

The Burmese army has also attacked ULFA bases and that of Manipuri rebel groups in and around Taga. Some ULFA rebels like ‘Major’ Jyotirmoy Asom have died in the Burmese army operation.

Sources in NSCN-K confirmed that they have been told to stop aiding anti-Indian rebel groups or face severe consequences.

The developments in Sagaing spells the death knell of the north-eastern rebel groups because this remote hill region in Myanmar was their last trans-border base area after Bhutan and Bangladesh had cracked down against anti-Indian rebels in their territory in 2003 and 2009.

Indian army sources say many rebels from Manipur and Assam have surrendered to authorities after fleeing Sagaing following the Burmese military operations.

“The chain of command in these groups has broken down following the Burmese military operation. Many of them are running around like headless chickens,” they said.

Burmese military officials say they have ‘excellent understanding ‘ with Indian military officials, cemented during the last several months following regular visits by top commanders on either side

On the west, we have killed dozens or Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Simultaneously, we have been eliminating terrorist organizations operating in both India and Myanmar in coordination with the Myanmar Army. In exchange for India destroying Arakan Army assets in India, Myanmar has captured NSCN rebels who have fled across the border, many of whom are supported by China. This was a good example of increasing Indo-Myanmar cooperation in security and connectivity. Successful military operations such as this combined with aggressive diplomacy against terror groups and those who support them have resulted in major victories for India in its war against terrorism after what began as a rough month.

. . .
yes. we should increase our cooperation as we may face more challenges in future according to our intel reports.
The reason why these militants are active now is because of new infrastructure projects promoting connectivity between India and Myanmar. greater connectivity means more economic opportunity for locals, which in turn means less support for the terrorists.

First Bhutan, then Bangladesh, and now Myanmar, India cannot thank you enough for the services rendered.

Insurgency in Assam is on its last legs, devoid of public support it is confined to only a few pockets, youths here are no longer lured to it. ULFA lost the plot the day they targeted school children in Dhemaji, only the final rites now remain to be conducted. But i must say that the surrendered ULFA militants still hold some sway.

It is not only our neighbors. Most of the world has seen first hand the pain terrorism has caused us, and now fully support our positions on Kashmir. Notice how right after Pulwama, the UNSC passed a resolution condemning JeM and praising India's war against terrorism. Even after the recent skirmish, not a single country has condemned India for violating Pakistan's airspace. Instead, the world has condemned Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism. Thanks to a diplomatic offensive combined with its shows of military power, India is no longer alone in our fight against Pakistnai and Chinese backed terrorism. Pakistanis who celebrate shooting down one Mig that chased their air force after it failed to hist any military targets in India are missing the bigger picture. Whether it is Bhutan launching attacks against ULFA, India and Myanmar jointly eliminating terrorists, or France sanctioning Masood Azhar, the world stands with us. We will continue to destroy the terrorists who plague our lands and there is nothing our enemies can do since we have isolated them diplomatically.

Message from India has been loud and clear, there will be no truce with factions still demanding sovereignty as their goal. We will liquidate them inside our borders, initiate a major diplomatic offensive to name and shame their covert supporters, choke their sources of funds, and cooperate with friendly neighbours to decimate their command chain based in foreign lands. All these while engaging the factions eager for talks under the framework of our Constitution to chalk out a mutually acceptable solution. The world understands us and support our actions because they realise that what's happening in India may very well repeat in their countries. Terrorism in any form is a scourge we must fight together united setting aside political and other differences. Hope, China and Pakistan are listening.

They have heard us loud and clear. Pakistan has already been isolated, and now the US, UK, France, and Russia are putting pressure on its only enabler, China. We also sent a clear message to China with the ASAT test. The world now knows that India is not going to kid around with terrorists in Kashmir or anywhere else, and now stands behind India for the first time.
