KERALA – Setting a role model for Indian Muslims, two Muslim girls have topped the 2015 Kerala medical entrance examination, breaking into a male-dominated field.
"I want to be a good doctor with social commitment and will use the opportunity to serve the society," P Hiba said while talking to reporters after the results, Ummid.com reported on Friday, May 22.
“If you are driven by stern decision towards something, you will get for sure.”
Securing the first place, P. Hiba of Malappuram scored 954.7826, according to results announced by P K Abdur Rabb, the Minister for Education in Thiruvananthapuram.
After completing class 12 last year with 98 percent marks from the Manjeri GBHSS, Hiba joined Bhabha Institute of Sciences at Manjeri where she braced for the medical exams.
The girl was surprised to get the first place.
“I was confident that I could make it to a government medical college in the State,” Hiba said.
The Muslim student, who is still waiting the results of All India Medical Entrance Examination, aims to join MBBS at the government’s Medical College, Kozhikode.
Scoring 944.3478, Marium Rafi got the second place. Rafi also aims to join All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).
Muslims account for 180 million of India's 1.1 billion people, the world's third-largest Muslim population after those of Indonesia and Pakistan.
