Both of the involved parties are either trying to make silly points or the truth has not come out.
Serving with Sikhs one uses ' Sat Sri Akal' as a regular salutation , that does not make me a Sikh , neither did make an officer Muslim when he kept the Rozas .Therefore the Maulvi will not become a Hindu if he uses unit salutations. Salutations in the fighting arms are unit specific.
If the Maulvi is serving in a unit, it must have adequate number of HMs to warrant his posting therefore using Islamic salutations or jai Hind is perfectly normal. So the CO either is stupid or there is more to it that has come to notice.
The Maulvi by his own admission has done one tenure in Delhi, been on a UN Mission and now wants to get posted back to Delhi - here lies the rub & the reason for his grouse. The fact that he has even gone to court against a lawful command implies that he may well be on the wrong side.
