Musharraf warns against war in ME if Israeli attacks not halted RAWALPINDI: President Gen. Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have decided to augment contacts with OIC member countries to adopt joint strategy of action against Israeli attacks on Lebanon, according to sources.

They warned Middle East fall prey to regional war in case the Israeli attacks were not halted.

A high level meeting was held which was presided over by President Musharraf, during which Foreign Minsiter Khurshid Ahmed Kasuri and Foreign Secretary apprised President Musharraf and Premier Shaukat Aziz of latest developments in Middle East tension flared up in the wake of Isral’s brutal assaults on Lebanon.

Both Prevez Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz assailed with stinging criticism the Israel’s attacks and voiced their deep concern over Israel’s highhandedness against the people of Lebanon.

Pakistan urges OIC efforts against Israeli Lebanon attack

ISLAMABAD: July 23, 2006

Pakistan on Saturday urged Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to respond urgently and effectively to demonstrate its solidarity and support to Lebanon and consider measures to bring the Israeli aggression to an end and mobilise the international community for this purpose.

It was decided in a meeting between President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, who met here to discuss the grave situation resulting from the relentless Israeli attacks and aggression against Lebanon.

Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri and other senior officials attended the meeting.

President Musharraf expressed deep concern over the escalating crisis and violence in the Middle East and the increasing hardship and suffering of the Lebanese people. He said the Israeli aggression must be checked as it threatens to engulf the entire region with incalculable consequences.

The president and the prime minister said the international community, especially the major powers and the UN Security Council, must urgently intervene to contain the situation through an immediate cease-fire, de-escalation and reversal of Israeli aggression.

"In this grave situation facing a member state, consistent with the collective obligations under the OIC Charter as well as decisions taken by the Extraordinary Summit at Makkah last December, the OIC must respond urgently and effectively to demonstrate its solidarity and support to Lebanon and to consider measures to bring the Israeli aggression to an end and to mobilise the international community for this purpose," they emphasised.

Pakistan supports efforts by the OIC and all other initiatives to ensure full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.

The president and the prime minister will intensify consultations with leaders of the OIC member states for a joint response to the crisis situation in Lebanon.

They said the international community must also ensure that the desperately needed humanitarian assistance reaches the people of Lebanon.

Pakistan has already made arrangements to despatch relief goods especially food and medical supplies as soon as it becomes possible to send the supplies to the affected people in Lebanon.

Well if Musharraf is serious about his warning the only way he can prevent war is by regaining control of Lebanese skies and urging both sides to behave themselves.

I'm glad he's trumping up support and not going in gung ho unilaterally. If I was the leader who gave this warning and got the support from OIC thats what I'd first do.

I said "it starts" because Israel has a history of fueling fires and it'd probably still fight on and thats when the fighting would get ugly.

forsee that after Labanon Syria and so on the entire Arab world will face the same fate as Isreal coupled with US support learns how weak and divided Arab wolrd is.

Shaukat and Badawi discuss Lebanon crisis

ISLAMABAD (July 23 2006): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Abdullah Badawi, who is currently the chairman of the OIC, on Saturday had detailed exchange of views on the situation in Lebanon. During their discussion on telephone, the two leaders discussed the strategy and various initiatives - both at bilateral and the OIC level to bring about immediate peace in Lebanon.

They expressed their deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Lebanon and resolved to support all initiatives to prevent further loss of life and property in Lebanon. The two leaders agreed to stay in contact and redouble their efforts to bring peace to Lebanon. Prime Minister Aziz also called Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and discussed various initiatives to bring peace in Lebanon.

The Prime Minister has also approved the dispatch of food and medicine for the people of Lebanon, which will be carried by two C-130 aircraft.

Arab nations simply do not have the military power to challenge Israel. However, if Israel continues there is a good chance of conflict between Syria developing.

It concerns me when pakistanis say that israel and america want to weaken the arab / muslim world. I really really don't know which planet these people are living on. It is like a 'SOB STORY' repeated on and on, over and over, but it is an easy sale to people. Who needs to weaken the muslim world----when they are already sublime.

First of all there is no such thing as the muslim world or the arabs-----we are citizens of our individual countries, with our individual passports. Israel does not need to take on syria or any other country. It is just the iran's proxy war that hezbollah is waging to divert the attention of the world away from iran and the poor palestinians and lebanese are dying. Syria just might get spanked for what it didnot do----that is dismantle hezbollah.

So, for a moment we accept that israel and US wants to neutralize these nations one by one------well are these nations stupid----where is the strategy of saving the nation and its people. If Musharraf can do it, why can't these people follow through. You know why-----because they lack the common sense of surviving today to stand up tomorrow.

Most the readers cannot comprehend that israel wants to prove to the world that its forces can do better than the U S forces----. They want to test their weapons and training against the enemy. The israeli soldiers were getting a bit lax in their duties. The war would sharpen their reflexes and the palestinian and lebanese children and women would pay the price for hezbollah's belligerance.

The attentions are pretty clear, Israel got surprised after seeing rocket attacks from Hizbullah and no one have ever seen such fear among Israeli people since 1972. They fled their homes and towns in fear of those rocket attacks.
And whose providing them those arms Syria and Iran.

Syria has likely chances of getting dragged into this war.....

It matters not what leaders around the world have to say.

It all depends on the Israelis desire to continue or not. They way it is going, things are not too bright for peace.

If one goes by the TV images, then the sufferings are very heart wrenching. I just saw a motor boat pull out with the mother wailing since two of her children were not put on board!

The Lebanese population possibly do not want war, but then the Hezbollah wants war and they couldn't care less since the Lebanese govt is a lame-duck entity.

A very unfortunate situation.

The Hezbollah unfortunately kidnapped and killed and the Israelis are not the type of people who will sit and watch.

So, the inevitable has happened.

Dr Rice is in Lebanon. Let's hope some good comes out of this meeting with the Lebanese leaders.

One thing that has to be appreciated among the israelis is the sheer resolve.Even the parents of the captured soldiers made sure that they didnt throw spanners into the govt offensive,by saying that we are just civilians the govt knows what it is doing.

NOW compare that to a similar situation oh IC hijacking and or any other kidnapping, the near and dear ones would have cried and fainted to put pressure on the GOI to relase anybody and everybody so that their dear ones come home.

So i salute those parents who have shown steel like resolve.Hope i could speak to them,but damn even if i get the number i cant connect to Israel from here.

But Israel im sure werent ready for it,Hisbullah has kept up its word until now by taking war to israel to quite an extend and have managed to succesfully launch katyushos even after 2 weeks of bombing by Israelis.

The mood in Israel is set to change once the bodybags starts coming home when the ground offensive starts.And thats surely going to be a bloddyone.
