KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) former chief Syed Munawar Hasan has termed the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir, an attack on freedom of media.
He expressed these views during his visit to a local hospital to inquire after Geo News senior anchor Hamid Mir. JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, JI Karachi General Secretary Abdul Wahab, Secretary Information Zahid Askari, Deputy Secretary Information Riaz Siddiqui and others accompanied the former JI Chief.
Talking to media, Syed Munawar Hasan lauded the efforts of Hamid Mir to unveil the fact before people, adding that attempts against freedom of media were being made in the past also.
“The dictators including Gen Ayub Khan, Gen Zia-ul-Haq, Gen Pervez and former PPP Chairman Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Musharraf were also tried to impose ban on freedom of media, however; they were failed to do so and freedom of media is also there to inform the people about the real facts”, he added.
On the occasion, he urged the media groups to avoid confrontation among each other and make a collective strategy to take up the matters with responsibility.
He further said that the imposition of ban on any media channel and publication without any evidence was not a solution of any problem, adding that legal way should be adopted to reach at the conclusion.
“We have also some reservations with Jang Group over ‘Aman ki Asha’, as peace would also be restored with justice and giving the people of Kashmir their right of self determination”, he added.On the occasion, Syed Munawar Hasan prayed early recovery of senior journalist Hamid Mir.
