I don't know why people have this idea? Because maybe about a few thousand people mourned the death of Bin Laden? Maybe a few thousand lawyers supported Qadri? All this in a 'conservative' population of 180 MILLION?!

I don't think the liberal PDF represents 'the Pakistan' as such but I also think still far far fewer Pakistanis align with Qadris and Bin Ladens.

Mr. Qadri's death is almost going to be taken in a stride within Pakistan, despite his few thousand supporters. One needs to go back to 2007--before the start of the operation against the Lal Masjid goons--to realize where the 'public opinion' stood/stands. People maybe intimidated by these violent thugs--but are not enamored with them in a large majority.

This is my 'sense'.

I won't argue with you on this, you know your society better. My conjectures are purely from media reports and expat Pakistanis. My gut still says that there was a significant and influential minority that supported Qadri 5 years ago and if these protest don't die down in the next few days, there will be trouble ahead. I think Winchesters post below yours really hit the nail on the head perfectly. ...but again you guys would know better, so I defer to that and bow out.

They're one of the biggest sects in South Asia, in particular Pakistan. Having said that, not all Bralve scholar supported him, many of them issued edicts against Mumtaz Qadri.

Also, I have cousins whom are Salafi, a few of whom are in the army. Trust me, they're happy Qadri is dead.
