Mumbai demo turns violent, two dead and dozens injured
Protesters in Mumbai block traffic during a demonstration against the deaths of Muslims in recent violence in Assam, India, on August 11, 2012.
Sun Aug 12, 2012 12:44AM GMT

At least two people have been killed and dozens injured in clashes between Indian police and thousands of Muslim protesters in Mumbai.

"Two deaths have been reported and 46 have been injured out of which 36 are policemen," Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters on Saturday, AFP reported.

The police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse the protesters, who were holding a demonstration against the deaths of Muslims last month in India's northeast.

The protesters put three broadcast vans belonging to local television channels on fire and pelted police and public vehicles with bricks and stones, a police official in India's financial capital said.

The demonstration was organized by many Muslim groups, including Mumbai's Raza Academy, an organization promoting Islamic culture that had made a call to condemn recent ethnic violence in the Assam state.

The Mumbai demonstration "was peaceful and it suddenly turned unruly. It is unclear what sparked the violence", the city police official, who wants to remain anonymous, said.

"The situation is now under control," said Mumbai police spokesman Nisar Tamboli.

Last month, fighting erupted between Bodo tribes and Muslims in the Assam state, which borders Bangladesh.

Shinde told parliament earlier in the week that at least 77 people died in the clashes and about 400,000 fled their homes and are living in overcrowded camps in the northeast.

On July 28, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited some of the 400,000 displaced Muslims and told the victims of ethnic riots that it was "a time for healing."

"I have come here to share your sorrow and pain," Singh told the internally displaced people, who had fled their homes to escape the fighting.

"This is a time for healing," the Indian prime minister stated.

India's Northeast, which is ringed by China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, is connected to the rest of the country by a narrow land strip called the chicken's neck.

The Northeast, which is home to more than 200 ethnic and tribal groups, has been racked by separatist revolts since India's independence from Britain in August 1947.

In recent years, Hindu and Christian tribes have expressed strong anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiment toward Bangladeshi settlers. The Bodo tribes have clashed with Muslims in deadly riots several times since the 1950s.

Thirty years ago, about 2,000 people, mainly Muslims, died in riots in Assam.

150 million Muslims in india must have their own country.

Perhaps its time for china to give independence to tibetians and muslims, seeing that they are protesting daily..

Dont blame muslims as a whole for some religious faggots comment in a forum....

It would be better if the Chinese members stop worrying about some mischievous Islamic group in India trying to stir up some kind a problem with links and resources from unknown sources(Or do we know exactly where the source is)and concentrate on the grave danger of disintegration that they are facing in Xinjiang and Tibet!!BTW I heard that their communist party has banned fasting on Ramzan??As far as a separate country for 150 mln Muslims in India is concerned let me tell this that they have already been granted not one but two on either side of our borders and if they chose to stay then there must be a reason for that. And the reason is that unlike China there is freedom of speech and expression in my motherland. . . . !!The 1971 war was a watershed for the Muslims of SA especially India since they realized that the two nation theory was nothing but a farce!!

And what about the innocent bodos killed my muslims who will raise voice for them? And why do muslims call themselves minority when muslims are 33% in assam and bodos only 5% ,now tell who is minority...

Several Northeast Students Assaulted in Pune

Around 10 people from the North-East who live in Pune have been beaten up in separate incidents over the last two days in the upscale Kondhwa and Pune Camp area, sparking fear and panic in the 8,000-strong community. Most of those attacked are students. The reason why people from the North-East are being targeted is not known. Police have registered complaints of rioting against unidentified persons and begun a probe. Four students were allegedly beaten by mob of young men near Poona College in the Pune Camp area Thursday. The victims filed an FIR at the Cantonment police station Friday.

A second complaint was filed at Kondhwa police station by youngsters who were allegedly beaten in Kondhwa. On Thursday, a Manipuri student had lodged a similar complaint at Cantonment police station. Some complainants have reportedly told police that their attackers asked them if they were from Assam, but had not waited for a reply before assaulting them. Police sources said they would probe if the attacks were connected in any way with the recent Bodo-Muslim violence in Assam. Infosys employee Kahomdai Panmei (29) of Manipur, who lives in Kondhwa, said he was attacked on Wednesday evening. “I had dropped my sister at her residence in Shivneri Nagar, Kondhwa, around 8.30 pm on Wednesday. A few youths suddenly attacked me with iron rods and bamboo sticks… I failed to understand the reason.”

“On Thursday, Thuike Ywang (24) of Manipur, who is student of Poona College, was beaten up by two persons in Kondhwa when he went to buy rice at a shop around 7 pm,” Kahomdai Panmei added. Poona College student Premanand Khomdram of Manipur, who was the first to lodge a complaint, told the police that a mob rushed towards him, asked if he was from Assam, but before he could reply, began raining blows. Leaders of N-E students unions in Pune held a meeting at a hotel near the railway station Friday to discus the situation. Apparently, several other people were beaten up on August 8 and 9, some of whom have now gone to police.

A delegation of N-E students also submitted an application to Pune Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol Friday. Pol ordered a probe and appointed Crime Branch assistant police inspector K G Handore investigation officer. “We do know the reason behind the attacks. We do not want to name any community. We have done nothing wrong. We need a secure atmosphere to study and work in Pune,” Rock Lungleng, a student leader from Manipur who led the delegation to the police chief, said.

Peimingam Zimik, president of the Naga Students’ Union in the city, said, “Four Naga students were attacked in Poona College and two in Kondhwa.” Thangboi Haokip, president of Kuki Student Organisation, said that two Kuki students were beaten up on Thursday when they went to Poona College to collect some documents. Jacob Khiangte, president of the Mizo Students’ Union, said there were nearly 8,000 students from the North-East in Pune. “Student leaders representing all N-E states have come together to tackle the problem,” he said.

Poona College principal G M Naziruddin said, “We are helping the police and want the miscreants to be nabbed. We do not want nuisance in our college.” Assistant Inspector Handore promised a “proper investigation”.

Our country is leaded by congress who plays vote bank politics and if they remain in power after 2014,ill tell you, you'll see uneducated muslims thugs destroying your properties right infront of you

150 million Muslims in india must have their own country.

They already have 2 , they are called pakistan and Bangladesh
all muslims who want their own country can choose between either of them
since Hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh continue to migrate to India , so muslims from India too should be allowed to migrate to pakistan and Bangladesh , but that doesnot seems to be happening , I wonder why:what::disagree:

Assam CM: Bangladesh Does Not Want to Take Back Illegal Immigrants

gogoi.jpg

Admitting that sending back the legally detected Bangladeshi infiltrators was a complex exercise because of the absence of areciprocal arrangement with Bangladesh, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that theproblem was further compounded by the large number of “absconding” infiltrators. “Infiltration is there even though it has subsided in recent times…Bangladesh does not want to take back the detected illegal immigrants, and this has made the deportation process difficult. It is for the Government of India to take up the matter with Bangladesh,” Gogoi said at a press conference.
“The problem is further compounded by the absconding foreigners once their status is determined through the legal process. However, their names are deleted from thevoters list after that,” he added. On the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update, Gogoi said that it was a long-drawn process and would take at least four-five years for completion. “What could not be accomplishedin the last five decades cannot be completed in a year,” he said. Castigating the BJP for trying to creating a “communal divide” by branding the violence-affected Muslim populace in BTAD as Bangladeshi infiltrators, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that such irresponsible utterances at a time when peace was slowly returning would incite hatred and violence.
“They are Indian citizens, and this is not the time to play communal politics as restoration of peace and normalcy is the top priority…it isthe Congress Government that has done the most to prevent infiltration,” he said. Asserting that the Government would come up with a White Paper on the steps taken for checking infiltration, Gogoi said that senior BJP leader LK Advani never even had a discussion with Gogoi while he was the country’s Home Minister during the BJP rule. “It is me who repeatedly called for improving border security by having more outposts, night vigilance, etc. The BJP was totally inert and it exposes that they want infiltration to continue to effect a communal rift to suit their divisive politics,” he added.

Pick them up and put refugee camps at the border.....or create a ghetto for them to live or ask to go back....Why should India always have to take refugees on the expense of our internal security and local people. I don't want because of these illegal immigrants, local muslims to be considered as threat and pay the price.
