Multi-crore scam surfaced in DRDO

A multi-crore scam has been surfaced in the prestigious Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The scam, related to research projects, shows the ambiguity of rules at the prestigious organisation of Defence Ministry.

In Samay exclusive report, the DRDO, which is involved in research and development project for defence, released crores of rupees to a particular university sans norms and regulations.

After the exposure, the DRDO officials have locked their lips over the issue and are avoiding to make any comment.

Despite being hailed for successful test of Prithvi and Agni missiles, the recent scam has rocked the defence organization.

According to the Samay Exclusive report, DRDO has awarded research projects worth crores of rupees to a single university, which signals towards major swindle of money.

As per the DRDO guidelines, the defence organization will distribute the research projects to various universities across the country.

But it is obvious to raise doubts when all the research projects worth in crores go in favour of a single university.

The scam was unearthed by an RTI activist Prabhu Dayal of Dehradun.

No one can deny that DRDO has actively participated in country’s development but this kind of scam is maligning the image of prestigious institution.

Well this is all only natural ,

We all knew there was corruption.

Sometimes they get bought to light sometimes they don't.

It's a good thing we know of this scam , maybe in future similar behaviour will not be as easy to hide , and a greater norm can be established in the process.


But this Scam , highlights the greater problem of the Indian defence sector , favouritism .

What if the DRDO wanted to venture out something on their own by giving a contract to some university that will develop something for defense purposes.

Not literally have to be a scam. may be its just a reporting hike.

How is that a scam? it is a failure to follow norms and regulations.In order for it to be a "Scam" there has to be an ulterior motive in releasing the money to the university.

At best, this is a red flag which needs to be investigated thoroughly.

No one can deny that DRDO has actively participated in country’s development but this kind of scam is maligning the image of prestigious institution.

As with any other govt agency, corruption is and will be a part of DRDO. The sooner we realize this reality the better it will be. Let us not be naive and put up DRDO on a pedestal and expect them to be holier than thou. Whenever wherever we have projects worth crores of Rs, there will be some element of corruption.

Honestly, I'd be more worried about DRDO not delivering goods than a few crores Rs being released without following usual norms.

PS: Its good to see that our SriLankan brohters are are so much concerned with the "proper" fiscal accounting of DRDO........ good job!!!

DRDO staff does not get lot of money, they have to depend on bribery.

University Name ? SASTRA Private Deemed University, founder Professor Sethuraman is VC since foundation 1984

Project name ? Life science projects almost 34 project submitted and out of these 14 cleared and senior DRDO official giving pressure to release rest immediately

Multi Crore ? now each lab director has power to give Rs 25 lakhs in single project.
