What's new

Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq's death anniversary being observed today.

He was not the best but he was better than many we have seen. Zia Ul Haq was no saint just as most leaders we have got but he handled the Afghan Invasion very intelligently and I believe the mess we got would not have happened if he lived on after the withdrawal. Yes, he made several wrong choices but so did the other leaders before and after him. As much as Z A Bhutto is praised for his intelligence and work, I believe that Zaa Ul Haq had better performance than him.
P.S: We should rather move forward and make course corrections by learning from past mistakes rather then discussing the same topic again and again. It does not help anyone if we keep blaming our fairly past leaders for all the current problems. They are all gone.

Z. A. Bhuttos is another man I totally respect for what he has achieved for this country. The Zia vs. Bhutto tussle is exactly what is wrong in our civilian vs. military relationship. Imagine, these two giants, working together for the benefit of the country. What could have been achieved? Pakistan would be a very different country, had we benefited from their combined genius and charisma.

Ordu revived the Din in Pakistan, our party is doing it in Turkey - a Parliamentarian from the governing Justice and Development Party(2002- ....)

Bhutto was a very smart man just as Zia ul Haq but he was one of the players which divided East Pakistan and West Pakistan. Though, he is not alone to be blamed, but he made a big blunder. (P.S: I do believe that Bangladesh and Pakistan were difficult to be held together due to various factors). I also dislike thinking about scenarios which are impractical. Zia and Bhutto could never work together...

OK. I should set the record straight. I am AGAINST the division of Pakistan. If the two arms really felt they can't work together, they should have parted ways amicably. Not in the ghastly manner of 1971.

The whole nation salute to the real leader of the country. Who made it possible for a common man to live with honor in this country whose condition was no better than the slave and subject of the westernized capitalist elite of the country. It was Zia who brought Pakistan out of the misery of partition and restored its strength in the region. And never to forget, the man who made the Surkhas of the country cry forever.

don't forget bhutto us begariat nay bhi is mulak ko kahin ka na chorney ki koi kasar nahi chori thi
Totally it was him who chose this monster but still damn this guy is the worst thing that happened in Pakistan i mean theeee worst.

A crazy fanatic and a brutal dictator who thankfully met his violent end, if not we would have been using donkeys as mode of transport, sports would have been banned, men forced to have beards, women made property of men like cattle and kept indoors.

I do not agree with him saying "thankfully met his violent end" cuz it's really impossible for me to wish death to anyone but he's not wrong in rest of the post.

Dude that's factually incorrect.

Pakistan progressed in sports. From Imran khan to Shehbaz Sr to jansher and Jahangir during that era.

We had a vibrant arts society in terms of classical dramas and comedies like 50 50.

F16s are not exactly donkeys.

We sneaked through our nuclear ambitions.

As far as beards. Well the hippies are still wearing them and its still cool.

And as far as women are concerned. I can literally bet you women were better off then as now considering our eastern values.

In retrospect everything can be sold as negative or positive.

I can debate you for hours that nuking Japan was a good idea and also a bad one just as easy.

With Russia gone and Zia threatening bigger chunks of the puzzle he had to go. Simple enough.

Now what brought Zia to power is of no one's interest now?

Had Bhutto carried on. It would have been a death sentence for a strategic sound Pakistan.

Survival matters not glory in a socialist world of the 70 80s.

We managed to stay neutral in Iran Iraq war. Can you imagine that?

History is just repeating itself yet we prefer petty quarrels over the bigger picture.
