MQM worker dies after allegedly being tortured by LEAs

KARACHI.: A Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker died of wounds allegedly suffered during torture in custody of law enforcement agencies early on Tuesday.
According to initial details, MQM worker Adil belonged to unit 136. He had been picked up by Rangers on Saturday.
Adil was allegedly subjected to torture during custody suffering injuries to his head. He had been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment where doctors declared his clinical death and shifted him into ventilator.
Earlier on Monday, MQM had gone to court against, what it calls, are extrajudicial violence against its workers.
The high court issued notices to the federal and provincial interior secretaries, provincial chiefs of the police and Rangers and their subordinates on this plea. Sindh High Court chief justice Maqbool Baqar, who headed the bench, also issued notices to the federal and provincial law officers to file their comments by Tuesday.
The petition was jointly filed by Fahad Aziz, who was allegedly picked up by the law enforcers and subjected to torture on Saturday night, his relative Abdul Aziz and MQM deputy convener Dr Farooq Sattar. They cited SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah and Shah Faisal police SHO Fahim Farooqui as respondents, apart from others.
