MQM solidarity rally: Altaf calls on nation to unite in support of army

KARACHI: While addressing the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s solidarity rally in Karachi, Altaf Hussain saluted the armed forces and said that the entire nation supports Pakistan Army,Express Newsreported on Sunday.

Dedicating this rally to the martyred soldiers, Hussain said that the soldiers are selflessly sacrificing their lives for the country. He further added that unity and harmony are imperative for the country.

Hussain added that army showed patience and stayed within the law and constitution, while giving militants a chance during the negotiations.

If militants want to impose sharia, they should act within the constitution. There are other religious parties as well, but they all express their views while remaining within the parametres of the Constitution, Altaf said, adding that militants should express their views and ideologies without using guns, sticks and violence.

The MQM chief also said that first, the terrorists should be eliminated, after which landlords and corrupt politicians should be eliminated.

Hussain had announced on June 28 that his party would hold a historic gathering to express solidarity with the armed forces who are currently fighting against militants in the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation in North Waziristan.

Members of other religious and political parties were invited to the gathering as well. Those in attendance included Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) minister Rubina Qaimkhani.

Qaimkhani, while addressing the rally, said that the MQM provided a platform for other parties to come together and support the army. She further said that the PPP leadership had been victimised by the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Rasheed added that it is important to win the hearts of the internally displaced persons otherwise the war would be lost.

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led rally to express solidarity with the Pakistan Army is underway at the Jinnah ground. All major political parties are also in attendance at the solidarity rally.

The ruling PMLN delegation is being led by Saleem Zia, while the PPP is being represented by Waqar Mehdi and Rubina Qaimkhani, the Awami Muslim League delegation is being led by Ahmed Raza Kasuri.

Sources add, that all those in attendance will be served Iftar and arrangements have been made for 100,000 people.

MQM invites JI to their solidarity rally

KARACHI: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Saturday declined an offer by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to participate in their solidarity rally for the armed forces, saying that they are not in favour of the ongoing operation in North Waziristan.

In an unprecedented move, a delegation of the MQM comprising Rabita Committee member Aminul Haque, MNA Rehan Hashmi and leader Abdul Haseeb visited JI’s headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq on Saturday and invited them to their rally on Sunday.

While JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman thanked the MQM for the invitation, he said that his party does not support the military operation as it may yield temporary success but is not a permanent solution.

The JI Karachi chief also added that thousands, including women and children, have been displaced from their homes and no arrangements are being made to provide them with shelter.

“Our stance is different from the MQM. We believe that military operations are not a solution, and we demand that the one in North Waziristan [Zarb-e-Azb] be stopped immediately,” said Rehman.

In a rare meeting amongst the two parties, which are considered to be arch electoral rivals in Karachi, MQM’s Aminul Haque said that they have invited JI for the sake of the country’s prosperity and for keeping democratic traditions alive.

The invitation was extended after a reporter asked MQM chief Altaf Hussain during a press conference on Thursday whether the JI would be invited. Altaf then asked his party members to visit the JI office and formally invite them for Sunday’s rally.

“Sunday’s rally will be the biggest one in the history of the country in support of the armed forces where young and old would participate,” Haque said.

The MQM leader further added that they were warmly welcomed by JI leaders and invited JI leaders to their headquarters, 9-0. While saying that he plans to visit JI offices in the future as well, Haque said that their visits date back as during the time of the leaderships of Qazi Hussain, Ghafoor Ahmed and Munawar Hasan, the two parties would visit each others headquarters.

Actually MQM is under enormous weight of legal troubles and public perception both at home and abroad.

Hence the change in tactics.

Afterall this party is run as a one man show, so whatever good or bad comes, it comes from one man.

The rest of the gang(s) fall in line quickly.
