UK Metropolitan Police’s Anti-Terrorism Command Unit quizzed a senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader for several hours during searches at two North West London addresses on Thursday, including a house owned by MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Pakistan Today learnt on Friday.

According to a source privy to the events in London, the British police questioned MQM senior leader Raza Haroon for three to five hours during a search of the establishment owned by Altaf Hussain. The details of the questioning could not be ascertained. Raza Haroon is a former cabinet minister of the Sindh government and was recently taken off the MQM Coordination Committee by the party chief.

More than two dozen members of the police, including forensic scientists and members of the Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), took part in the high-profile operation. The involvement of SOCA shows that while investigating the killing of Dr Imran Farooq, British authorities are also looking at the “money laundering” aspect and the net of the investigation involves more than what is widely known.

Talking to Pakistan Today from Karachi, Engineer Nasir Jamal of the MQM Coordination Committee said the party had already announced its full cooperation to the British police in the investigations into Dr Farooq’s murder. Jamal said that he was not privy to the details of the search operation carried out at the residence owned by his party chief.

Asked about Raza Haroon’s interrogation by the British police, Jamal said that he did not have any such information. “I don’t think Mr Haroon is in Karachi these days and I don’t have any information whether he was present in Altaf Hussain’s residence at the time of the raids,” he said. Raza Haroon’s cell number in Pakistan was turned off and calls to his Karachi residence number went unattended.

Dr Imran Farooq was stabbed to death outside his home in Edgware, north London, in September 2010, when he was returning from work. His killing shocked Pakistan and Britain as the killing was executed in a highly professional manner and left the Metropolitan Police, one of the most professional investigating police forces in the world, with a lot of painstaking investigation.

Dr Farooq was a close colleague of Altaf Hussain and among the party’s founders. The MQM has always maintained that it wants Dr Farooq’s killers brought to justice. - See more at: MQM

Good to see but they should also go after Altaf Hussain.

dangerous signs are back in pakistani politics?
90s is back with nawaz sharif in power, politics of revenge in motion?
with all this & that under those or these can his killers could be caught ever? if they are knowngly already been dead?
Mi5 doesnt know it? joke of the century?

MQM has been given a very long rope. Its has not changed its tactics a bit. It uses violence and politics. I dont think anyone has any issue with MQM doing politics. But all have a lot of issues when politics is mixed with violence.

This three day soag drama is another methd of violent politics. People will abide out of fear not allegiance to MQM.

Imran Farooq Murder: Held suspect unofficially identified as Iftikhar Hussain

LONDON: The British Pakistani suspect held at Heathrow Airport in connection with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq’s murder has been unofficially identified as Iftikhar Hussain and is currently under interrogation at a police station, Geo News learnt.

According to sources the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command has yet not disclosed the identity of the suspect formally.

The 52-year-old British citizen of Pakistani descent was arrested upon his arrival from Canada at Heathrow Airport around 10:10 AM Monday morning. The detectives lay in waiting for the man whose trail they were hot on for a long time. He was shifted to a West London Police station for further interrogation, which is yet underway.

Earlier, in a major breakthrough, the detectives investigating the murder of Dr Imran Farooq arrested a man on suspicion of conspiracy to murder the Pakistani politician on Thursday 16 September 2010.

Dr Farooq was on his way home from work when he was attacked outside his home in Green Lane, Edgware, by a group of Pakistani looking men who killed him using a kitchen knife and bricks. A post-mortem gave his cause of death as multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head.

A five and a half inch-bladed kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene. A spokesman at the Metropolitan Police told that detectives from “the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command remain committed to finding those responsible”.

The detectives believe that Dr Imran Farooq’s murder would have required careful planning and would have required help from other people, some of whom may have provided assistance or information unwittingly.

Again on Monday, the Met Police said that it’s interested in speaking to anyone who was asked for information about Dr Farooq and his routine, or who was asked to help buy items such as knives similar to those used in the murder, or mobile phones around the time of the attack. The police believe that the items used in the murder were bought from local areas in Edgware prior to the attack and killing of the former convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

The mobile sims used were not registered on any names but the police has connected the dozens of numbers called in Pakistan, London and few other countries using the sims which were shut down soon after the brutal killing.

The police has offered a reward of up to £20,000 for anyone providing information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible for Dr Farooq's murder.

Sources have told Geo News that more arrests are expected soon as the detectives have received important new leads in recent days. Only a few days ago, two residential addresses were searched in London by the detectives for 55 hours non-stop. The police have so far questioned eight people under caution.

so you think Even Dr. Farooq was killed by some other political party or ISI? since everyone is using violance against MQM its cannot be MQM who would kill their "Ex-Leader"

Please bro.

Do not justify violence by any political party, even when it is MQM.

Thank you

Now that what we call el classico.
1- The case under consideration is under process in UK not Pakistan.
2- The investigations had been led by UK police without any connection to Pakistan initially.
3- The two important persons arrested at Karachi airport were held by PPP to blackmail MQM, this shows that,"Daal main kala"
4- London police raided MQM office, then raided houses of MQM leaders, NS hasn't asked them to do so.
Like they say, "Karma is a *****".
