My question is if SPG can provide security to Gandhi Family, then why not to prez?
Let my try and help you with how we have got to this point because, I agree, it amy seem an illogical situation from looking at the situation that exists but historical context provides the answers.

1)After Indra Gandhi's assignation the SPG Act was passed and the SPG came into existence (in around 1985) to be a world class unit solely charged with protecting all current Indian PMs. Up to this point Indian PM security had been a rather ad-hoc affair involving the Delhi Police and IB with many loopholes and inconsistencies.

2) After Rajiv Gandhi's assassination the SPG act was amended to cover former PMs and their immediate families for a period of 5 years and beyond this period an annual threat analysis would be undertaken of protectees to assess whether SPG cover was to be extended or withdrawn. It was the belief that the SPG could have saved Rajiv Gandhi had this approach (cover to former PMs) been taken.

So the current situation is this- Modi, former PMs H D Deve Gowda, MMS, Vajpayee and the Gandhi family (Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka) are all covered by the SPG to day. NOT Vadra (as some mistakingly assume) and MMS's daughters have asked for their SPG cover to be withdrawn as Section 4 (1A) of the SPG act allows (and has been replaced by local police).

The Gandhis, in accordance with the SPG act Section 2 (f), continue to enjoy SPG cover because they are the (immediate) family of a former PM (Rajiv Gandhi) and one must assume there is some threat to them as the cover has not been withdrawn thus far. I would very much like for them to have their SPG cover withdrawn though and perhaps under the NDA it will be.

As for the President, the SPG was charged solely with the protection of the PM (which the SPG act reflects). As the President of India is mainly a ceremonial position the threat perception to them has always been seen as relatively minimal and thus there has not been the kind of scrutiny placed on their cover as that of PMs. However, in the face of heightened threats that Indian institutions as a whole face these days there is talk of the President of India being brought under the SPG's ambit. Currently they are protected by a specialist unit of the Delhi Police.

It couldn't be anything to do with the fact that India is the world's 8th largest economy......:whistle::whistle:

Wasn't the president was protected by the President's Bodyguard(PBG) an elite regiment of the Indian Army.

Intelligence sharing is common. If mossad agaents do protect NaMo when he travels abroad I won't be surprised in fact pleased and proud of the fact that Israel considers Indian PM to be of such strategic high value that it's providing cover for him across the globe.

Anyways the name of Mossad makes most people wet their pants bcz of their daredevil missions and ability to do things which otherwise is not possible for most agencies (especially Indian context where retaliatory actions are somehow limited)

Besides G20 will see multiagencies cooperation and primary mandate for security and local intelligence falls under host country Turkey's jurisdiction. So I think a bit of exaggerated reporting here.

I do believe TOI did more for selling its story then the reality.

True but it doesn't make sense- there is nothing that Mossad possess that Indian and Turkish agencies (as the host country) can't provide in terms of physical security. The ONLY thing they could assist in is intel sharing. There is no reason for Mossad to be physically involved in guarding Modi.

. .
Wasn't there were reports of creating a separate unit like SPG to guard the president or was it to be formed as a elite unit of the Delhi police?
I think there was news of this in 2013 but more recently (2015) there was talk of SPG cover being provided to the President, which would make much more sense- why create yet ANOTHER unit?

Oh come on, the UK isn't facing weekly suicide bombings- the security situation in Turkey is far worse than in the rest of Western Europe. Either way, the Indian agencies aren't taking any chances- they will be deploying whatever measures they see fit to keep their PM safe.

Sir if security situation is so alarming (which i doubt is so) then y not postpone the summit or relocate it? The reason is that case is not so. Israel also faces daily assaults in retaliation but no one ever has taken any special measures while visiting there. It not about body count but the frequency of attacks that matter.

And how UK is more hostile than Turkey?

UK has got people with Modi specific anger and houses affectees of Operation Blue Star and Gujrat riots.Plus there is strong presence of Hizb Tehrir there too. Mutiple threats from multiple fronts but UK didnt let Modi feel an iota of heat of any and so is Turkey capable of.

Kindly tell me even 8-10 leaders out of them who are more important than Modi.
Anyway, I can understand how you are feeling.
:sarcastic:

And that is just wow. Actually the summit is about all most important and distinguished leaders of the world. That makes 19 important/distinguished and one Modi. And thank U i am feeling really awesome today.

I didn't say the security situation was so bad that this summit couldn't take place but it is clear that the UK is more safe and stable than Turkey. This isn't exactly controversial.

.
why would our secret services be involved in Turkey to secure his visit? I dont see any real threat against him in Turkey. whats the point? Or is there something we dont know?

Smells like a sensational journalism, take a look at this thread.

ISIS attack in Turkey, ‘fidayeen’ blows himself up killing 4

Don't worry guys

They said that Fighter Jets saluted President (Indian Presdint of that time Pratibha Patil was escoted by EF Typhoon during Europe visit) when they deployed their airbrakes

They said that Pakistani Submarine attacked on Indian Fishermen

thousand of such crap which I can't count.

We called this newspaper , Toilet Paper of India.
