Head of Rostec's International Cooperation Department Viktor Kladov said that Moscow and Islamabad are holding negotiations on creating a Russian technical service center in Pakistan, which would maintain and repair helicopters.

This is a high time for Pakistan. Russia would be more than happy to assist and share their tech for MI-35 (which they now considered old), but for Pakistan, building these internally along with Chinese Z's and complementing by American Vipers can be a real money saving and the best bang for the buck strategy. It can kick off Civilian helicopter projects, as well as internal overhaul, manufacturing and future R&D for Pakistan.

This is a good time to get whatever comes from Russia and China as TOT if possible. I can see it happening and this may be the first step towards it. You can't repair and overhaul heli's and jet's if majority of the technology wasn't transferred and local staff wasn't trained to overhaul, troubleshoot and fix all components of a chopper!!

In principle there is an agreement of 24 jets. Now the pricing, weapons, training and maintenance are going to get discussed. Russia wants Pakistan to commit to buying around 60 planes and they'll reduce the price tag to a degree where overhauling machinery will be covered in the cost. So really, the logistics are going to get discussed.

The Pakistanis appreciate Russia's generous offer but from my little knowledge, there is more enthusiasm towards the J-31, than SU-35, as the former provides a Stealth fifth gen capability that Pakistan doesn't have, and having that, will put her aviation industry in the league of top 5 or 6 countries producing such tech. So there is more interest in that. If the government can provide assiduity on funds, you might see both platforms in 24-40 numbers each.

YAK can also provide self defense and heavy ground support due to a large number of hard points so it makes sense for the PAF to consider that as an advance trainer and light fighter.

DUBAI (Sputnik) — Russia and Pakistan are negotiating over the creation of a service center for helicopters in Pakistan, head of Rostec's International Cooperation Department Viktor Kladov said Sunday.

Russia-Pakistan Mi-35 Contract Could be Expanded
"There is a huge number of Russian helicopters in Pakistan. We are currently holding negotiations. It is about creating a technical service center, which would maintain and repair helicopters," Kladov said.


In March, Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain announced Islamabad's intention to expand military-technical cooperation with Russia and purchase Russian helicopter gunships.

In August, a contract for four Mi-35M transport and attack helicopters was signed by Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport and Pakistan's Ministry of Defense, according to a spokesperson for the Russian Embassy in Islamabad.

This is a good step , Not only Pakistan but Afghanistan and Iran can also send there Helis for maintenance and repairs and after we get the Vipers we would have to depend less on the us for maintenance and other repairs , after increasing heli crashes this seems good for the big Pak heli fleet
