In December 2019, the U.S. Department of Defense has announced that Oshkosh Defense was awarded an $803.9 million deal to provide joint light tactical vehicles to the U.S. military and military of Montenegro. Under this contract, Montenegro will receive 30 JLTVs.
The JLTVs for the Montenegro armed forces will be equipped with Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) manufactured by the Israeli company Elbit Systems. In December 2019, Elbit Systems had announced today that the Company was awarded a contract of approximately $35 million, to supply the Montenegrin Armed Forces with RCWS for the Oshkosh Defense 4x4 JLTVs.
In October 2012, Oshkosh Defense announced the beginning of production of its Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV). The L-ATV was selected for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) phase. In August 2015, the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has awarded Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, a $6.7 billion firm fixed price production contract to manufacture the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).
The JLTV is equipped with an advanced crew protection system that offers a protection level similar to a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. The JLTV’s armored capsule is scalable and can accept multiple armor configurations to protect troops from IEDs and today’s other prevalent battlefield threats. It can be fitted with a wide range of remote-controlled weapon stations or ring mount 7.62 or 12,7mm machine gun.
The JLTV can run at a maximum road speed of 120 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 480 km. It can climb a gradient of 60% and a side slope of 40%. It can cross a vertical step of 0.5m and a trench of 0.5m.
