SHANGHAI: China’s super-rich suffer because of the pressures brought about by their fortunes and are less happy than ordinary millionaires, according to a survey by a leading wealth magazine.

“The richer you are, the less happy you are,” concluded the poll of more than 500 Chinese millionaires by the Hurun Report, which compiles an annual list of China’s richest people. The survey defined “millionaires” as those with personal wealth of 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) or more, and the super-rich as those with 10 times as much, 69 of whom were included.

“Money also brings you problems,” said Hurun Report founder Rupert Hoogewerf.

“These problems could be pressure to perform, pressure to satisfy your customers, pressure from all these different aspects that come about when you have a big business,” he told AFP on Wednesday.

Nearly 30 percent of all those surveyed said they could not balance work and life, the survey showed. More than half were unhappy about spending so little time with their families.

On well-being, more than a quarter were unhappy with their health while more than a third believed they did not exercise enough.

This is true in today's time.

This is true in today's time.

I think its true everywhere in the world. But Chinese are more connected to their families.

your whole life goes on earning money and in the end you spend that money in your health.....

People work to earn money. And in many cases, they trapped by their work.

Not just millionaire who run big business, even me too. I feel like a slave, keep working everyday to earn money to eat. I do the same job everyday, so boring and tired. I can't imagine that I will do this job for the rest of my life.

Ancient Chinese proverb.

If you want happiness for an hour -- take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day -- go fishing.
If you want happiness for a month -- get married.
If you want happiness for a year -- inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime -- help someone else.

its true everywhere and specially in countries like India where people run for money throughout their life and in mid 30s they realize that they have wasted their life and go into depression for the rest of their life.

I just hope I made a fortune around tens of millions of USD and retired early!

If Chinese rich feel unhappy with the money, they can donate some to me.

If i am super rich i would donate the money... which makes me happy. -> More money more happyness?

I'm willing to bet that a millionaire is happier than the average Chinese citizen, so money still does buy happiness. After all, how many (unhappy) billionaires are there in China?
