Moments of freedom for Pakistan

We are probably the nation that cribs about freedom the most, however we're the most captive nation - one that doesn't even realize the level of captivity its people live in, the various types of subjugation we endure to international masters.

However from time to time there have been some glimpses of Pakistani freedom. I wanted to document what these freedoms look and feel like. So please post away pictures, videos and articles you feel that speak up, the spirit of freedom within Pakistan.

The long march too was a rare glimpse of Pakistanis moving their ***** to secure their freedoms against dictatorship and armed guns censoring the media and the free voice.

Wow...what an aggression... Sir can you give some more details on what this speech was against?? I know its about 1971 war but not aware about UN security council role in it apart from Shimla Agreement between India and Pak...

First we have to look this freedom of expression takes us where? An emotional freedom serves no purpose but isolation and further decline it may serve positively in cases collaboration with national interest and tactics

With weaker position our freedom of expression is merely a complain... but in long run it may bring transformation subliminally

Completely off topic but I'll answer it quickly for you. This speech was as much for Pakistanis as it was for the Security Council. His words about "so what if you obliterate us... we will build a new Pakistan" gave a lot of hope. eventually, Bhutto sb did settle favourably with Indira (apparently during a 1:1 walk), securing the release of POWs and in just a couple of years after 1971, extending recognition to Bangladesh - with whom Pakistan continues to have very positive ties - a diplomatic marvel if you consider it in context. Significant details about all the above in Fatima Bhutto's recent book.

Actually it was due to Bhutto big mouth that the Polish Resolution did not pass (It would have passed and Pakistan today would be United Pakistan) but that guy knew he could not become PM in united Pakistan so he tried his best and ultimately Pakistan was broken..

"It was in the early weeks of December that Zulfikar was sent by General Yahya Khan to plead Pakistan's case at the United Nations Security Council. It was on the 15th of the month, after the UN had ruled in Bangldesh's favour by supporting its claim to independence, that Zulfkar angrily declared, 'So what if Dhaka falls? So what if the whole of East Pakistan falls? So what if the whole of West Pakistan falls? We will build a new Pakistan. We will build a better Pakistan ... We will fight for a hundred years.' Zulfikar had felt from the start, leaving aside his respect for Mujib as a compatriot, that the Awami leage's Six Point programme would divide the new and fragile country. Now, disgusted with the proceedings at the Security Council, Zulfikar ripped up his papers and walked out, angry and frustrated. 'My country hearkens for me, why should I waste my time here in the Security Council'."

It was never meant to be a promotion of Bhutto, god knows the man had his flaws, especially once he came to power and it all got to his head. I'm pretty sure even Altaf Hussein has shown some semblance of good leadership once in a while that has gotten him the popularity he has.

These videos are from his foreign affairs minister days, or just before he became PM. These were Bhuttos finest political days.

I just wanted to capture moments of true freedom exhibited by Pakistanis.

Not to make this a Bhutto thread but even though I'm no big fan of hers, I've always liked this total show of defiance for the dictatorship

why do we have to worry for Democracy if Dictatorship is more productive for Pakistan. I don't think providing examples would be necessary as events of past and present are too obvious, Democracy is all about the interests of the ruling class it is not a patron of freedom, i am not talking about the Fictional Democracy that exists in books only & which guarantees a Utopia for the citizens such Democracy doesn't exist not even in USA

No dude. I meant that the video does not exactly relate to 'freedom' as you wanted the thread to be. It shows a helpless minister of Pakistan giving up. What does it have with freedom or resolve that Pakistan showed?

I am not a very big fan of Bhutto Sr(or for that matter Jr) either. If he did not get killed may be I would have admired his political mind as genius. Now I will just call him great. A lot of Bhuttos' popularity is because of the political vacuum there was, as can be inferred from BB's last meetings despite the corruption charges against her.
