Modi In Wembley

Thanks @MilSpec

Modiji has surely raised the bar of foreign diplomacy for India. We hope it continues the same in future, he wins or not in 2019.

I just hope he gets one more term in 2019 and is able to take India to greater heights.

Can someone explain the vocal minority who dislike Modi? I dont keep up with Indian politics and I know searching for information will just be full on, is it what I imagine, muslims making noise? or is it something more than that.

There was a religious riot in the western state of Gujarat, India in the year 2002. Modi was the Chief Minister back then. It started when due to unknown reasons, a group of Muslims set a train coach on fire in Godhra, Gujarat. The coach was full of Hindu pilgrims. It resulted in sharp reaction from the Hindu community, and a lot of Muslims lost their lives in the riots, around 750 Muslims and 250 Hindus.

Modi was accused of not doing enough to stop it or condoning violence against Muslims. A special Investigation team was setup by the Supreme Court of India, which cleared Modi of all charges in 2012. It also rejected the claims that state government had not done enough to prevent riots.

That's the root cause.

Cheers, I can recall most of that happening and thought it was related, in violent times its hard to make decisions and its always easier to comment on what should have happened when the damage is done. I know the Nepalese were a bit vocal in the UK this week aswell but I cant really fault Modi, likable character and a good orator who seems to be representing India well. A man who will start India on the path of properly modernizing the country and hopefully putting many of the poverty stricken citizens on a better path, trade deals are a good start.

1. Nepalis are protesting because there is an ongoing blockade by a group of people called Madheshis, who are Nepalese by origin. Since Nepal is a landlocked country, all the supplies go through India. India can't take much action here because these group of people are sitting in the no-man's land or inside Nepalese territory. But, some of the Nepalese people accuse India of not doing enough nonetheless.
It's a temporary issue, will be sorted out soon. Of course, they should have protested.

2. Typical Pakistanis hate Modi because they think they are the champions of the Muslims and it is their responsibility to worry about Muslims across the globe. :P

My take is slightly different to @nForce

India has been ruled by a single family and their retainers for most of its existence since 1947. They have over time built up a huge network of patronage and a class of English speaking, western educated people who basically run everything in India including the media. They have allies in Muslim and some caste leaders.

Modi is an outsider. He is low caste, he was poor, he did not go to fancy schools and English is not his first language. He has upset the apple cart and the old elite do not like it one bit. so They throw sh1t at him hoping he will go away.

There is a new demographic in India created by a growing economy and they want change. The elite are fighting to hold on to their unearned priveleges. The center of gravity is with the newer demographic, even if they manage to oust Modi and reinstall one of their own, it will only be temporary. The unwashed aspirational masses are rising !

RAW....not hindus....Listen to him again....He is my only source of news here in US for Pakistan. He is the most credible, balanced and most importantly knowledgeable person. i differ with him on many accounts. But I respect his views. I don't believe all hindus or indians are intolerant but definitely Murdoodi and RSS are terrorists and unfortunately fanaticism is on rise in India but there are many many good people in India.

It is a lady but a bit too much exposure for pdf :) Be careful
Not really

What did you make of Modi's starting remark in Wembley ?

"I was told, that London would be cold. But not this much. Your wonderful and warm welcome makes me feel at home;"
