Can mixed marriages work? I'm dating an Indian Sikh girl and she's very open minded like myself but her brother found out about us and prohibited her from dating me. He told her it wont work out in the future. I knew a Sikh girl who married a Pakistani guy and they seem to be happy. It's just sad that religion can become a huge obstacle in love.

I'm surprised it's that way in Canada but it's less to do with religion and more to do with culture is what I have observed.

People see religion nowadays as not a spiritual path or way of life but a culture ID like thing.

Religion in reality would permit such things and in Islam our Prophet(SAW) even married woman of different religion but whom converted mostly.

You see the problem is, I feel bad for you if you don't have other options for example to go to Pakistan and get married.

I have the option to go to Palestine and get married and also the option to get married here and if I get full of myself the option to date a girl and get married.

But I'm refraining from dating not because it's 'haram' it's actually haram because it most likely won't end up in a dedicated relationship and most people's intentions are to date numerous girls.

Had dating led to dedicated relationships Islam would have permitted it.

So I'm personally not really wanting a Muslim here unless I can find some Pakistani woman here I have a lot in my community and they have a balance between American and Muslim culture unlike some Arabic girls here.

However, i have many advantages to go to Palestine and get married but there is still a future ahead and who knows who I will know of later.

I'm sorry if it was a real thing and it's got to you, but, if you can't do anything about it don't sweat it. All guys are like you trust me, we used to have the view of getting one girl and everything is over if it's not the way we want.

It's bad for our energy and wastes our time because we all know how we see another girl later and think 'Oh, she's the one I feel it'.

Truth is there are literally thousands of girls of your taste in personality, beauty, manners, etcc... And you will be happy one day.

We all have been in your shoes so hope this makes you feel better.

Always have a good guy talk. Makes things better. :)

How did you fell in love with Punjabi sardarni lol

It seem her brother/family is not open-minded which might be issue in there :P

Marriage get failed even if you marry within same caste/race/ethnicity. There is no guarantee that which marriage will work so if you both love to each others then go for it

Hard to work these things out. I have like 4-5 family members who are married and have kids with Whites or Spanish. You know how taboo that is in S. Asian community. It's a little easier, because we're Christian, but still.

Muslim-Hindu-Sikh, etc. are much, much, more difficult. You know the parents on both sides are going to be old school religious types too.

Nobody can even predict that a marriage within the same ethnicity might work or not. Though i do believe that religion does become a very important factor in some stage of our respective lives so such marriages are even more challenging than ordinary ones due to individual stark differences that get magnified later in life.

When you marry outside, you have to have an almost "i dont give a ****" attitude about it. Cause you're breaking very old traditions.

@Karachiite .. how religious are you... and how religious is she.
If you are nominally religious, then it should not be a big deal. Its not like you are marrying a person of completely different language/culture.
parents might not support in the beginning but if in west that is hardly a big deal.

Lol I love Punjabi girls :P And yeah I think her brother told her it'll end badly so better for her to end it now. And yeah you're right there's no guarantee marriages within same religion or castes can work out.

Yeah if only desi parents weren't so damn traditional.

Were both not really that religious. And we both respect each others religion.

Lol I didn't ignore you bro. The thing is I know I can find another girl. But it just won't be the same, we both really love each other. I've been with other girls previously but none of them were like her. I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic.

Okay then fight for it. LOL! I have this thing in me if I really want a girl nobody will get in my way and I will make it happen.

Adopt this confidence strategy. :)

I don't know why religion can stop two people from being together. Just because two people happen to be born in different religions.
