After hearing the news of Geo/Jang group owner Mir Shakeel being probed by Dubai Police for the investigation related to Criminal Defamation from one of my journalist friend, I intended to confirm and further get to the bottom of the entire developing story myself. For this purpose, I intended to ask a well-connected lawyerto get the actual inside scoop of the story.
Call it fate that that first name I saw in the contact list was my first ever room-partner in UAE who at that time was a Law student, but now he works at the same law firm as a junior consultant in a famous law firm located in Downtown Dubai. Since I had his number, I called him to have a little chitchat and to catch up on things. Later, we were exchanging a few texts; he mentioned his disgust at the people in Pakistani media. Upon asking the reason behind it, he responded mentioning an expected personality (Mir Shakeel ur Rahman) although with an information, which I personally thought was even below the low standards I had for him. He also added how Mir Shakeel has also started to prepare for the inevitable by enquiring about the standards within UAE prison and the procedure for requesting for “higher class” lodging in prison. I asked if Mir Ibrahim was aware of him being used as a scapegoat, to which my friend has no idea, as according to him Mir Ibrahim was not present in the meeting with them.
As far as this information is concerned, this further concretes my loathe for the traitor Mir Shakeel ur Rahman, who is already exposed to put the safety and integrity of his own country in the line of fire for his own benefit, can even stoop lower by putting his own flesh and blood in harm’s way to save himself. But seemingly the (rotten) apple has not fallen far from the tree. Reportedly, His son from his first marriage, Mir Ibrahim has been also playing tricks to get his grip tightened on the Mir’s wealth. According to a close confidante, Mir Shakeel is securing his own position by completely isolating Mir Shakeel’s second wife as well as trying to wedge in between his father and senior staff members of Jang/Geo Group by mistreating them, which has resulted in several of them leaving the media group due to his insolence.
While few may argue this as a smart move by Mir Shakeel to keep himself out of the bars to fight the battle for Geo and Jang as a figurehead, but one cannot deny that the Mirs have realized that they cannot bypass UAE laws like they have been doing so in Pakistan for ages and for them, a long-term residency in UAE prison is very much foreseeable.
