The number of Turkey-made Bayraktar armed and reconnaissance drones in the Turkish security forces has increased to 38 after eight new deliveries.

Four of the newcomers are capable of carrying “smart ammunition.”

The Istanbul-based Baykar has delivered the “TB2” model Bayraktar armed drones to the military, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Oct. 13.

Four of them can carry the “Smart Micro Munition,” developed by another domestic company, Roketsan.

Some 26 of the Bayraktar TB2s are used by the Turkish Armed Forces, while the police and gendarmerie forces have six drones each.

The number of Bayraktar TB2s in the inventory in armed configuration is 15.

The operational flight duration of the drones reach 30,000 hours and can carry loads up to 100 kilograms.

The Bayraktar drones are widely used in the Turkish army’s counter-terrorism operations.

Some 986 militants inside the country and 867 abroad were “neutralized” in 562 operations backed by drones and manned reconnaissance aircraft in the first nine months of the year. Drones were used in operations by the gendarmerie during which 55 militants were “neutralized,” according to Anadolu Agency.

Turkish authorities use the word “neutralized” to refer to militants who have been either killed, wounded or captured.

I'm so happy to hear these news, I think a patriot like Bayraktar (owner) is a man who deserve to have his hand blessed (Eli öpülür).

Old post from 2010 ? But you are right, we should be thankful that there are patriots like Bayraktars owners who made progress in due time. And that crises helped give our own products a chance.

And this is only the beginning. Turkey has seen the power of weapon-carrying UAVs, there's no going back now.

Soon we'll also fly twin-engined UAVs and HALE-class UAVs with double the weapon load and endurance.
We should keep UAV operating pilots identity TOP secret. I was shocked when I saw an article in AKSAM, proudly presenting first female UAV combat pilot. This was idiocy and she was made target.

Totally agreed. UAV pilots should be treated like SPECOPS/BLACKOPS soldiers. Identities and families should be fully protected.

I see this quite a lot in Turkish media, boasting about projects, about capabilities, about missions and so on. Sometimes you can appear strong by being silent, sometimes the mystique can be much more powerful without giving everything away.

You have to think of the news as some kind of a morale boost. And of course if it was a secret the military wouldn't have allowed the news to be spread. Perhaps this is a way to say "Our female/mothers hunt down terrorist scum who've been killing their children now".
