While Russia is feeling more pressure from collective western civilization, it needs countries as backers which are not under the influence of western powers and share concern about western encroachment into Asia. Pakistan is a jewel in crown if Russia able to get its backing , because Pakistan not only was once American most staunch ally but also the biggest and influential Muslim power. India on the other hand is in pocket of west and Russia will not get any benefit out of India in geopolitics for that reason.
