Militants and the Army exchanged firing on Wednesday morning in north Kashmir's frontier district of Kupwara.

Preliminary reports that militants opened fire on an army patrol in Lolab area, 130 km north of Srinagar.

The Army refused to confirm casualty immediately.

The exchange of fire in Kupwara district has come just a day after the army claimed to have killed five militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran Sector.

Trooper killed in Kashmir gun-battle

WEDNESDAY, 10 JULY 2013

An army trooper was reportedly killed during a gun-battle with suspected militants in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, some 100 kms from summer capital, Srinagar, on Wednesday.

Sources told Kashmir Dispatch said that an army trooper, who was injured during a shootout in remote Lolab valley, succumbed to injuries. However, there was no official confirmation from the army.

Army had earlier said it launched a 'search operation' to flush out militants present in the area.

J&K: 1 Army jawan killed in an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara


Srinagar: One Army jawan was on Wednesday killed in an ongoing encounter with terrorists at Lolab in Kupwara district of north Kashmir. According to reports, the encounter started in the morning.
Meanwhile, five heavily-armed terrorists were killed when Army foiled a major infiltration bid from across the border in Kupwara on Tuesday.
Five militants, who were trying to sneak into Kashmir, were killed in a fierce gunbattle with troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Furkian Gali. Troops noticed suspicious movement of some eight to nine persons between the LoC and fencing in the wee hours.

Will boomerang.. A violent movement is preferred from an India pov.. Muslim Majority area+proximity to Pakistan+violence = Terrorism.. Much more easier to handle .. International bodies, including Muslim nations (except Pakistan probably) wont touch it with a 10 foot pole :)

Of late places like Jharkand have also been having fireworks, wonder what's the Muslim majority in the area and it's proximity to Pakistan.....perhaps this is all happening due to the pole vaulters....10 ft or otherwise. :D
