LANDI KOTAL: Security forces on Saturday arrested an important militant commander in Jamrud here.
Security officials said Taliban commander Umar Khan Maki Khel was arrested from a house in Ghundi area during a joint raid conducted by Swat Scouts and Khasadar force.
They said Umar Khan was wanted in a number of sabotage cases. The capture of Umar is the second important seizure of militant commander in Jamrud during last three days.
Officials said security forces also seized huge quantity of arms and ammunition from another empty house in Malakabad locality.
Meanwhile, Khasadar force sealed a number of drugs and gambling dens in Malagori area of Jamrud on Saturday.
Officials said the action against anti-social activities was taken after repeated complaints from local residents.
Political administration on Friday distributed Rs40 million to 16 heirs of those who died in a suicide blast at Torkham border in 2009.
Assistant political agent of Landi Kotal Mohammad Tayyab Abdullah handed over Rs2.5 million cheques each to heirs and widows of 16 Khasadar personnel at a function.
Speaking on the occasion, Tayyab Abdullah said the government was committed to fighting against all kinds of social evils and terrorists.
He said the government would not allow anyone to take law into their hands and sabotage the peaceful atmosphere of tribal areas.
He urged local community to extend cooperation to the security forces in maintaining calm in the area.
Mr Abdullah said his administration would pay school dues of children of all the fallen khasadar and levies personnel.
