Mancha to light ‘Mangal Pradip’

Protesters at Shahbagh’s Ganajagaran Mancha will light ‘Mangal Pradip’ (peace lamp) on Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year, with a pledge to strengthen communal harmony.
Imran H Sarker, the platform’s spokesperson, made the announcement on Saturday.
He said the lighting of lamps will be held along with the mass rally, announced earlier.
“We’ll hold a communal harmony bond for three minutes up and down the country at 5:30pm [on Sunday],” he said.
Sarker urged everyone to be enlightened with the spirit of Liberation War and wherever they are stand holding hands at the given time.
“At 7:30pm, countrywide Mangal Pradip lighting programme ‘Aloker Ei Jhornadhara’ (this fountain of light) against all dark forces will be observed,” he announced.
The Mancha requested everyone to light either a ‘Mangal Pradip’ or at least a candle.
Apart from these programmes, the protesters, seeking maximum penalty for convicted war criminals and banning the Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party, also announced to take part in the Pahela Boishakh celebration at 6am at the Ramna Batmul.
They will also take part in the ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’ at 9pm. The theme of this year’s Shobhajatra, a colourful procession brought out to welcome the New Year, ‘Come truth, come good, come freedom’.
The main programme of the Ganajagaran Mancha will be held at 4pm on Sunday, Sarker said.
