Man threatens to kill Shakib Al Hasan on Facebook live for inaugurating a Puja at Kolkata.

Middle eastern jobs, Saudi madrasa funding is not the whole problem. The Bangladeshi labors who goes to Middle East are not subjected to any organized brainwashing by Arabs there. Those Arabs are only interested to make those labors work more with little pays. Saudi funding of Madrasa is also overblown. Most of the Alia Madrasa in Bangladesh are govt. funded and Qoumi madrasas funded by social charity.

Main reason why some Muslims are becoming hardliner is because of 'Internationalization of Muslim identity'. Since the American lead war on terror launched which destroyed more than one Muslim countries, and it's widespread ramification on Muslims, from airport screening, to ban on Hijab, rise of far-right populists in Europe, rise of Hindutva fascism in India, attack on Prophet Muhammad, injustice faced by Muslims in Palestine, Kashmir, Rohingyas made many Muslims around the world convinced that, Muslims are under attack everywhere. This solidified the grievance of Muslims real or perceived aganist powerful ''enemy of Islam''.

I would say the current rise of extremism has a lot to do with Imperialist power's meddling in Middle East since 1950s. Prime example of that is the establishement of Israel. Palestinians had nothing to do with holocaust of Jews, they did nothing wrong against the Jews. Yet they were expelled, killed and subjected to all type of humiliation and misery to make room for a Jewish state. Why should any Muslims not to notice the injustice faced by their Muslim co-religionist at the hands of Jews and Christian West?

US and Soviet Union propped up various secular, corrupt dictatorship and monarchies in Middle East against the wishes of their population where only alternative were the political Islamic opposition. Iranian revolution, Afghan war, Kashmir conflict only added to this grievance. The current extremism among some Muslims has more to do with global politics than theology.
Indians also have different narrative. Hindus say the reason why they support BJP is because Muslims wants to destroy India and only a hindutva party can save hindus from extermination. They also cite persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistan as reference.

Also Muslim extremism has theological tone too. Hatred and radical thought are also promoted at Friday sermons and in Waz and Bayahs by extremist Maulanas and Imams.

He's been arrested. His family claims he's mentally ill. Given he did this one FB live in public I think that statement holds some truth. Still I can't help but feel bad for these types when they're arrested.

. .
The question I wonder is why do Pakistan and Bangla produce so many of these types.
I think because only pakistan and bangladesh are living with a religion by their side which has 1 billion followers(hindus)...muslims and hindus have never been in good terms with each other... the animosity of centuries between those two groups has descended to present generation too.

That's why I said all parties need to shun extremism. You can not give excuse for Hindu or Buddist extremism and their anti-Muslim policies while expecting Muslims to unilaterally abandon extremism. One kind of extremism feed another kind of extremism. We need to condemn simultaneously both Islamist extremism and anti-Muslim policies adopted by other religious or racial extremists. But the problem is, many non Muslims justify extremism of their own kind in the name of 'combating' Islamist extremism. I believe, only the genuine humanists have a right to criticize Islamist extremism, not the hindu BJP/RSS thugs, not the Burmese or Sri Lankan buddist ultra-nationalst and genocide advocates, not the European far rights who hide their racial hatred in guise of combating ''immigrant Muslim take-over''.
Also Muslim extremism has theological tone too. Hatred and radical thought are also promoted at Friday sermons and in Waz and Bayahs by extremist Maulanas and Imams.
If hatred and extremism is promoted by any Maulana and Imam, then it's roots lies within the current geo-politics, not any Islamic doctrine. Show me any mainstream Islamic Maulana or Imam advocate killing innocent Hindus or Buddhist just because of their faith? If any 'radical Maulana' declare Jihad against Indian Hindu extremists at the height of Hindu-Muslim riot in India or if any radical Imam urge Muslims to fight against Burmese Buddist because of Rohingya genocide and ethnic cleansing then you can not brand them as theologically inspired, but stem from current inter-religious disharmony brought by national leadership of India and Burma. Quran or Hadith do not justify senseless violence and oppression. There are some verses in Quran which appear to urge Muslims to fight, but if you put those verses into proper textual and historical context, then it is obvious that those verses allowed Muslims to fight only defensive wars in cases where Muslims are in danger.

Jihad do not mean unprovoked warfare against non Muslims, it means struggle. Struggle to end oppression, tyranny, social injustice. Hindu has a concept of 'Dharma-Yuddha' and Christians has a concept of Crusade. You will find many verses which justify war and violence in Bible and Bhagabat Gita and other Hindu scriptures.

Simple look at the productive rates of muslims and hindus would clarify the reasons for the relative decline and rise. Also this so called 23% percent is bogus....it was possible rate at pre partition india.....lame hindutva nonsense.

As we have said many times no BD is crazy enough to migrate to the open sewer that is india

The secular, socialist "dictatorships" were not what the Western governments wanted among Muslims. And in such places the populace largely accepted the "dictators". Below are five million Egyptians accompanying the funeral procession of Jamal Abdul Nasser :

Why do you think the Westerners / Americans are happily leaving Afghanistan with the Taliban in charge ?

The question I wonder is why do Pakistan and Bangla produce so many of these types.

It is the really all the desi lands which produce such types. India really, to be direct. The broader concept land of India has always produced religious extremists from time immemorial. Whether it be the fabled Manu whose ideas the modern Hindutvadis follow or whether it be the Taliban. You may know that Sayyid Qutb, the leader of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, was also inspired by the Deobandi writings from India.

I have had my encounters with some irritating Tablighi Jamaatis in my area.

There have been some ISIS recruits from India is the last few years but I am sure that there have been quite a non-ISIS few from India, actually South Asia, who have gone to the fighting fields of Libya and Syria to fight alongside the Western-promoted "rebels".

Off-topic : Those two policemen should take proper haircuts. They look a bit scruffy here.

Bangladesh did not have 23% Hindus. In 1951 the hindu population was 22% when Bangladesh was part of Pakistan. During the Pakistan era, Hindus were discriminated by the Ayub Khan and Yahya Khan government for which many had to flee to India. Many prominent hindus like the then law minister of Pakistan, Jogendranath Mandal had to flee to India because of anti hindu policies of the Pakistani government.

In 1971 the hindu population reduced furthermore and in 1974 census, it was revealed that the newly independent Bangladesh had 14% hindus.

To further that question, Why do those types run away to the west, Quite audaciously sport flags of western nations all the while seeking to destroy that very Western civilization and a establish fundamentalist Islamic utopia they and perhaps their parents ran away from ? Quite a conundrum

Are Sylhetis more conservative than Bengalis? I understand that Sylhet used to be a part of Assam before 47.

What about Rohingyas? Are they more rightwing or more moderate than Bengalis? I assumed the eastern you go, the lesser the hardcore element becomes.

They desire to live the pompous 'western' lifestyle while maintaining their pretentious religiosity in order to have something to look forward to in the 'hereafter'.

Hypocrites, who want to have the cake and eat it too.

Sylhet is home to many a mazars and Sufi darbars, the population is a bit more pretentiously religious....

People in our countries aren't really pious, in the sense that they follow God's commandments, no, for them piety is telling the neighbours daughter what to wear; totally unsolicited advice (which apparently paves the way for you to get it good in paradise).

Whether Sylhetis are like that or whether it's an affect of the many shrines and rabid mullahs, I don't want to say, I don't enjoy being mistaken for a racist and so on....

About Rohingya, yes, they're alot more religious, but remember to hold onto your culture in a genocidal land that hates you means you need to hold everything dear to you close by and that's why they're a little more religious than others.

I don't think there is any geographic index here at play, for instance Chittagong is the division with the highest proportions of non Muslims in Bangladesh, indeed my ancestral district of Sitakundu is 30% - 35% Hindu and we all get along just fine,.. we have a Shakti peeth in our locality (a pilgrimage site that Hindus from all over come to visit).

It's just depends from person to person, their upbringing and the elements they're exposed to, but mullahs and mazars are definitely a factor.... The more of those you have around you, the more pretentiously religious you get.

Whatever the case, religious extremism has increased a lot in Bangladesh since the early 2010s. More and more number of people in Bangladesh are becoming radicalized, especially in the village areas.
