The lone victim who died in today’s London mosque attack was identified as an “elderly Bangladeshi expatriate”, news portal Telegraph.co.uk reports quoting witnesses.
The victim was an elderly Bangladeshi man who had just left the Muslim Welfare Mosque on Seven Sisters Road, the news portal reports.
"My uncle had just left the mosque when an elderly man who was in front of him fell ill and collapsed on the ground,” Sultan Ahmed, a charity worker, whose uncle witnessed the attack, told Telegraph.co.uk.
"A group of worshippers were crowding round to help him when the van drove at them and ran over the old man. There were at least two others who looked to be in a very bad way,” he added.
The driver of a van ploughed into worshippers leaving the mosque at Finsbury Park on Monday, killing at least one person and injuring 10 others, reports Reuters.
The van driver was screaming that he would kill all Muslims.
According to Reuters, British Prime Minister Theresa May said the incident was being treated as a potential terrorist attack. If confirmed, this would be the fourth such act since March in Britain and the third to involve a vehicle deliberately driven at pedestrians.
Shortly after midnight, the hired vehicle swerved into a group of people leaving prayers at the Finsbury Park Mosque, one of the biggest in the country, witnesses said. The attack comes during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
