The most promising startups using artificial intelligence are U.S.-based companies working in the fields of health care, retail and transportation, according to a study that looked at budding AI companies around the world.

Of the top 100 startups in AI, 65% were based in the U.S., though some of those had dual headquarters in China or elsewhere, according to the analysis by CB Insights, a tech research group that analyzed data on close to 5,000 startups around the world.

“These would be companies to watch that are doing really interesting research in AI,” said Deepashri Varadharajan, the lead analyst on the report. “Some of them might get acquired. Some might have successful product launches.”

The research group considered venture capital investment, patent activity and market potential to develop its list of the companies most likely to succeed. The high percentage of U.S.-based companies reflect the country’s historical dominance in AI research, Varadharajan said.

More than 4,300 startups in 80 countries have raised $83 billion since 2014, including $26.6 billion just last year, according to CB Insights. While the dollar figures for investment have grown rapidly, the share of U.S.-based investments dropped in that period to 39% from 71%.

Where are the quality personnel for these AI companies in the US? Import from China? When I see that in last several years, IMO math teams of the US and Canada (and even Australia and the UK) are almost all of ethnic Chinese, I cannot prevent this thinking.

Do not say that you employ Latin, Mexican or red-neck white employees for AI.

Why do you think there's only Chinese people in AI?

Here's a 2015 picture of the redneck team designing the most powerful rockets in the world. China's latest Long March 5 (with tens of thousands of employees and 60 years of experience) is only slightly more powerful than their FIRST rocket (Falcon 9)...nevermind their latest (Falcon Heavy).

Their chief rocket engine designer was a white “redneck” guy fiddling with stuff is his garage! Just like how Tesla started. Elon Musk has stated that college degrees are not required!! He prefers untrained Wright Brothers types.

Purely its easier to find investors and fund a startup then its in other parts of the worlds.
China is different because the state is involved in pretty much everything but here in UK there are incentives and schemes you can use to fund startups. I am sure the same will be true for USA.

The difference between USA and China...

USA is a dreamer, while China is hardworking.

USA has a great big vision, while China win in technique.

The war between USA vs China can be seen in the case USA vs Japan.

Japan's product was once won against USA, but suddenly the battlefield is changing as a better vision USA innovated with IT revolution.

It's already too late when Japanese realized what is USA doing.

USA and China today are developing AI.

Chinese seems to work harder, but what Chinese doesn't realize is what USA vision has on AI.

Chinese can make a great smartphone...

But all the ecosystem owned by USA.

its the opposite. Just ask yourself this: which one still uses credit cards instead of mobile transactions?
