Major water supply project for Karachi delayed

KARACHI: A major water supply project for the metropolitan city K-IV has been delayed and there is no chance for Karachiites to have sufficient quantity of water in the coming two-three years.

According to the official documents, the completion of the first phase of the ‘Fourth Additional Water Supply Project’ has been delayed till 2023.

The Ministry of Water and Power has sent the timeline of the project to the Ministry of Planning and Special Initiatives and after three months of approval of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), a consultant would be appointed by April this year (2021). The consultant will submit the project design, PC-I, and bidding documents by July 2021 and work on the K-IV project is likely to start by November 2021.

The official documents further suggested that Wapda has to complete the civil work of the project in 20 months, by July 2023. The said major water supply project K-IV has already been delayed for about 18 years and the civil work of the project has also been stalled since August 2018. According to official estimates, completion of the first phase will provide Karachi with an additional 260 million gallons of water per day.

Initiated in 2007, according to the initial project report, the said K-IV water project was expected to be completed by 2018, it would spread across 120 kanals and a network of pipelines. However, the project is being delayed for the last many years due to multiple reasons.

In July 2016, the KWSB had assigned the construction work for phase one of K-IV to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). It was the responsibility of the water board to provide land and electricity for the project but it failed and wasted three years from 2015 to 2018. The design and alignments of the project had to be changed again and again for unexplainable reasons.

It is a misleading headline. Read the article. Steady progress is being made and construction is to start in Nov with completion in 2023.

it has alredy been modified to supply water to zardaris bahria town and faujis dha city! dont worry it will be completed in time to increase value of these projects!

Kartarpur can be completed in a year but this project is being delayed further.

This is unfair. A basic necessity is delayed while religious tourism is urgent.

Sorry but no amount of reasoning can justify this. As a non karachiite i feel their pain.

I rarely comment on Pakistani threads.
But this relentless campaign of making karachi a victim on pdf lately has become irritating. (Similar stories can be found here too).
Karachi walo tum apne aap ko dukhi bhagore Indians hi batate rhoge ya kabhi Pakistani bhi bnoge.
Just coz u have business acumen n developed a property doesn't necessarily mean u feel entitled over other citizens.
Ur over populated "city" is drowning in its own shit coz the ppl living thr dont care(or to be more accurate,, care only about themselves).
Don't expect others to clean after u.
What about other areas,, baluchistaan, FATA. What about tribal people.
Disturbed area bolke unke waha army baitha di.
Waha jo ho thik hai,,, lekin apne yaha agar pani nhi toh bhayya, Aasmaan tut para.

1. FATA may fc deployed hai tw karachi may bhi rangers masti k liya deploy nai kiwi.
2. Karachi is over populated q k yahan pay km say km growth ki opportunity milti hai. Baki overpopulation, waste disposal, encroachment etc ko deal govt karti hai jo yahan nazar nai ati.
3. I've never in my life seen a karachite who doesn't call himself a Pakistani tw apni ye bekar bat apnay tk rakho.
4. As this thread is related to k4 thora time nikal k google karlo k karachi may pani ki kia situation hai phir khudi mu band hojaiga.
