A major fire swept through the cargo terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi in the wee hours of Thursday, gutting offices of several international airlines.

The blaze erupted between 12.45 am and 1:00 am in the first floor of the cargo terminal, located near the Air Traffic Control (ATC) building, which houses offices of around 20 international airlines, including Air India, Air Sri Lanka and others.

Initially, airport sources said the maintenance staff tried to douse the flames with the fire fighting arrangements at the cargo complex but failed to contain the fire.

The fire brigade was informed at around 1.15 am only, police and fire brigade officials said.

"There is no damage to cargo. No cargo has been lost. No one was injured," a spokesperson for Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates the IGI Airport, said.

Thirty-three fire tenders were rushed to spot which doused the fire in five hours at around 6.30 am.

The first floor of the cargo building that houses the offices of around 20 airlines and the HR department of Celebi, the ground handling services company that manages cargo operations at IGI Airport, was completely gutted.

"The fire broke out in the import section of the cargo. There are three buildings housing the import section and the fire broke out in the second building. All the offices have been gutted. There was no one in the office as it was night hours," the officials said.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained though a short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the blaze.

It's of concerning news.

I'm curious. Why do you want to suppress this news? Are you working for the Indian government and don't want this to get out?

Not trying to suppress it, I just think that this news is not big enough to be posted in the world affairs section.

Suppress news about IGI, he he.

**** HAPPENS!

Other than that IGI is a world class airport, comparable to the ones I've seen in Europe and North America (I don't know about East Asian airports though)

Watch how it was constructed and how beautiful it is. :)

Wrong. DO NOT DISTORT what is being said. I am saying that human life is valuable and any loss in this regard is news worthy, not any XYZ accidents that happens in 100s everyday

You are changing your story. You didn't say human life is valuable. Quote: "... nobody even got hurt. not worth PDF."

And this needs to be in world affairs because?

YOu peoples are posting news about Tamil Naddu other states and their ministers, which has nothing to do with world that are you internal news.....check the daily posts of this forum....you will see more than 30% posts are about India which has nothing to do with International Community.....and moreover you peoples don't leave a comment about Pakistan which you don't hve any link to talk....and when some bad news came about India you start reacting......is that fair. :azn:

If so many channels are reporting it, why do Indians want to suppress it here?
