Maj Gen Hafiz Masroor Ahmed appointed as UN force commander in Ivory Coast

New York- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Major General Hafiz Masroor Ahmed of Pakistan as the Force Commander for the United Nations Operation in Ivory Coast. This was announced by the secretary general's spokesman announced in New York.
Major General Hafiz Masroor Ahmed will replace Major General Muhammad Iqbal Asi, also of Pakistan, who completed his tenure of duty on 21st of last month.
Major General Ahmed brings to this position 30 years of national and international military experience, serving since 2012 as the General Officer Commanding of an infantry division in Pakistan and Chief of Staff of a corps headquarters from 2011 to 2012. Previously, he commanded an infantry brigade and served as the Director of Military Intelligence in the General Headquarters. Major General Ahmed has also served as a United Nations Military Observer in Sierra Leone from 2004 to 2005 and as Staff Officer of the Pakistan Task Force in Saudi Arabia from 1990 to 1991.
