Mainstream extremism: Is secularism dying in Pakistan?

Coudnt agree more with the bolded part, dont at all agree with the religious extremists but also on the other side the arrogance of the so called "liberals" towards anything traditional, conservative is beyond me. They in their attempt to become western and "cool" forget their own identity. This trend is growing in the larger cities especially.

but this isnt a Pakistan-specific phenomenon...it's happening everywhere, even in big cities of self-isolated countries like Iran! Globalization has often been attributed to ''westernization''

basically, my view is simple

live, and let live......we should worry about ourselves and our loved ones and not meddle or butt into other peoples business or lifestyles

There is a difference between westernization and globalization. Basically adopting telephones, internet, and keeping up with the world is globalization. Westernization is a forced attempt to become something you are not. However as you said if people want to become "westernized" then do so, live and let live, couldnt care less, but when these people believe that they are somehow superior to more traditional people thats what bothers me. I personally like to see myself in the middle but of course only another person can tell me if thats true or not.

Il give you a quick example, if you speak English in Lahore, Karachi you'l be regarded as very well educated, up to date etc. However if the same person starts speaking Punjabi then the reaction will be "Paindooo".

In the 1962 constitution, Ayub Khan removed the Islamic prefix from Pakistan's name.
Alcohol was very much legal to everyone. These were the times that countries like South Korea looked up to us.

Objective resolution was a farce.
