GippsAero part of Mahindra Aerospace plans to conduct first flight of a 18 seater GA18 aircraft next year , GA18 is derived from the highly successful N24A Nomad aircraft which also was operated by Australia , Indonesia,Thailand and Philippines in their military for the surveillance and search and rescue (SAR) missions .

GA18 is a a rugged, maintainable aircraft that has Ability to operate from semi-prepared airfields. Mahindra also plans a military variant which when fitted with radar can be used for surveillance and also for para military and transport operations .

Civilian variant can be used for economic short-range, low traffic operations or for adventure sports like sky driving or freight operations . Mahindra plans to manufacture smaller aircrafts from its Bangalore facility in next two years and also supply crucial parts to its current aircrafts manufactured in its Australian plant .

I don't think so, the Dorniers are still in production and are made in house. More advanced variant is in production (not in India,though HAL is a component supplier). Also there is NAL Saras with some promised orders.
