Around 10 families of the Mahbubnagar bus fire victims who were arrested on November 30 when they went to meet the transport minister, on Tuesday filed a petition with the APSHRC in which they stated that the police knew that they were going to meet the minister and yet took them into custody and did not even spare children. They blamed DGP B Prasada Rao for the police action. At 10.00 a.m. on November 30, around 30 families of the accident victims went to Botcha Satyanarayana’s residence to speak to him about government’s delay in paying compensation and other issues when police arrested and took them to Golconda police station. “We already took an appointment and informed about the same to local police. This was widely circulated in the media too. But when we reached there and addressed the media, police personnel pushed us into vans,” said D Sudhakar, coordinator of Mahabubnagar bus accident JAC. The families were released in the same evening. Explaining the situation, Ivaturi Naveena, wife of Siva Kiran, one of the victims, said that she along with others went to meet Botcha to present their problem. ‘’I took my two-year-old child with me. A short while after reaching the minister’s home, police personnel pounced on us. By the time I could comprehend what was happening around me, my child was taken away from me. Other families said that they were pinched and pulled by police personnel. Is it justified to behave with us in such way when we went to just represent our issues?” questioned Naveena.
