Mah-e-Mir goes to Milan Film Festival
The movie was also selected to represent Pakistan at the 89th Academy awards.
HAFSA SAEED A DAY AGO
The creative industry of Pakistan has its good and bad days and Mah-e-Mir belongs to former because while the film didn't earn big, it is winning accolades at various film festivals. The movie, which was also selected to represent Pakistan in the 89th Academy awards (but didn't make it to the final cut), has now selected to be screened at the Milan Film Festival.
Apart from being showcased, the movie is also nominated under the category of “Best Editing of a Foreign Language Film” at the festival which is held in Milan, Italy on an annual basis since 1996.
Mah-e-Mir, which was directed by Anjum Shahzad and starred Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali, Sanam Saeed and Manzar Sehbai, released earlier this year and since then has developed a love-hate relationship with audience - some hate the film while others adore it. The movie is based on the life of the famous poet, Mir Taqi Mir.

The artsy film may not have done well at the box office, but it is gathering praise at various film festivals and it doesn't surprise us because Shehzad himself revealed, in one of his interviews, that Mah-e-Mir was originally made for the film festival circuit and not for mainstream cinema.
It is heartening to see that our art forms are not just appreciated locally, but Pakistani content has now gone global and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy winning two Oscars is a prime example of that. Earlier in September, Mah-e-Mir and Gardaab were selected for Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF), which is one of the most celebrated cultural event of the US capital, and soon after Sarmad Sehbai won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the DCSAFF for Mah-e-Mir.
