The kiss of life: Heart-rending viral video shows a Navy SEAL standing to embrace his wife for the first time in months after nearly dying in a horrific car accident
Earlier this year, 36-year-old SEAL Jonathan Grant, who was in the US serving as a combat medic instructor, was in an accident that left him in a coma, fighting for his life. His wife, 32-year-old Laura Browning Grant, has stuck by him, helping the doctors and physical trainers nurse him back to help.
Laura treasures the little victories of his recovery, and last week was rewarded when she helped her husband stand up from his wheelchair, prompting him to shower her with tentative kisses.

Laura has uploaded other clips of her and Jon kissing, all with Jon in his wheelchair or bed and Laura leaning into him. This clip, though, was different, since Jon was initiating many of the kisses.

It's one of the few skills he has re-learned since coming out of his coma several months ago, and it was hard-earned.
In March, just a month shy of the couple's five-year anniversary, Jon was rushed to the hospital in Virginia following a car accident.
He suffered brain bleeding and brain injury that left him in a coma, with cuts all over and other internal injuries. Doctors weren't sure he'd survive.
Laura hurried to the hospital from their home in North Carolina, but Jon stayed in his coma for months — and was still unconscious when he left the hospital in April. He didn't wake up until two months after his accident.
With Jon now staying at a rehab facility, Laura has found a place nearby to be by his side. Though he can now breathe and eat on his own — puréed food only — she's there to help him over other hurdles, staying at the facility for up to ten hours a day.
